This outfit is totally unflattering...it makes her look pregnant !!!
But I love the leggings...I would have preferred if they weren't footless!!!

My dislike of leggings got another shot in the arm for a few big reasons. The 9/17/2006 edition of the Houston Chronicle[/B] has the Fashion page with a girl in leggings on the front page. A caption within the girl's leggings said this:

"[LEGGINGS] The '80s wardrobe had three essentials: leggings, a Swatch and off-the-shoulder sweater (thank you, Jennifer Beals)."

There's also this caption:

"Here are some '80s cultural touchstones that have been recycled for the 21st Century.

THEN: Leggings and leg warmers
NOW: Leggings"

The sixth paragraph of the cover story, "The 'Me Decade' is back, in a totally righteous way," this is the entire paragraph:

"All around the country people are busting out leggings, bubble skirts and tapered jeans, watching a movie remake of Miami Vice and turning out in droves to see '80s cover bands that feature a solid cache of Madonna, Journey and one-hit wonders."

So thank you fashion gods... now I REALLY hate leggings. I was born in 1983, but what's my least favorite decade of all time? That's right- the 1980s. People are all happy and reminiscent of the 1980s like it's the best decade one can ever live. I'm SICK of the 1980s! I can maybe do the 1970s, but the 80s suck major a:censored:. The 80s hate sort of continues into rock music in the 1980s. Which is why I didn't get all happy and giddy to listen to 1980s rock music in "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City." Forced to listen to some of the 80s stuff. Well, there were some good pop and love songs from the 1980s in that game. But that's about it. Leggings aren't fashionable (at least to me). I was at the Mall of the Mainland in Texas City, TX. When me and my parents were leaving the mall from the Macy's there, I noted some mannequin with a skirt and wearing leggings underneath. It wasn't a denim skirt thankfully. I think the shoes the mannequin had on were some cute round-toe pumps from Rampage. Did I mention that I hate the 80s? Did I mention that I'm sick of the 80s? Here are more excerpts from the Houston Chronicle segment on the 80s:

"...said big trends of the season include sweater dresses, tight jeans, and leggings."

"'The '80s are back in a huge way,' she (Suze Yalof Schwartz (editor-at-large for Glamour Magazine)) said. 'It looks new and fresh."

"Fashion often works in 20-year cycles, she says, so she's not surprised to see '80s styles back on the runways... 'Big hair, stonewashed jeans, the gold lamé jackets with the shoulder pads - these are all things I'm happy not to see again,' she said.

So now I see what this is all about... revival of the 80s. Revival of the 80s with leggings being the top fashion piece. An elaborate plan... which needs to be shot with a silver bullet or have a wooden stake driven through its heart. Some may disagree, but I'd rather a Bohemian trend than seeing this leggings deal (especially the look I've griped about) get to any unfathomable levels

I don't share your hatred for the 80's but I do wish that designers today would be more original and stop looking at the past for inspirations or some crap like that.

I mean it seems like since the end of the mid 90's nothing new has been created except for the low-rise jeans and grunge.

I love leggings and I love the music of the 80s but I loathe the fact that desingers today are totally not original.

I don't think it's an issue of not being original but more about where the designers are looking for inspiration...
After all they have to be inspired by something

Rarely is anything ever created out of thin air... it's all about reinterpreting things you have seen and it so happens that many designers are currently reinterpreting looks/aesthetics and ideas from the 80s...

I don't think that's necessarily a good or a bad thing but inspiration has to come from somewhere and it was going to happen eventually.. in tens years (maybe less) we'll most likely see a reemergance of trends/looks etc that were inspired by the 90s..

Even if you hate it i would suggest you just take it all in stride.. especially as the nature of trends is that they are always changing--just tell yourself that it will be over soon enough! ^_^

well some of the 80s wasnt bad but yeah when compared to the 60s and 70s , 80s fashion or about 90% of it is hideous and god awful. I lived through the 80s so I know ...trust me it was that bad. acid wash jeans, zipper ankle jeans , cosby sweaters, omg hahahaha

well the 80s obsession is already running out of steam so dont worry...

the problem with legging ive mentioned earlier is that it is so cheap to make and sell ( 5 dollars at lot of stores) , its easy to get that trailer trash/jerry springer guest look. They have always been wearing this sh** since before michael kors put it on the runway..

i find half length capri leggings cute ,...but..only with long tshirts ..wearing leggings under dresses is just ********, your messing the beauty of the dress.

Bought my first pair of leggings! I tried to resist this trend last year partially cuz everyone was wearing them under denim skirts, and partially cuz I was happy with my opaque black tights. But now I need something to wear under my long tops, as an alternative to skinny jeans, and they're better than tights to wear with platforms and flats, so...

I got them for $13.80, which is probably three times the amount it cost to make.

does anyone have any pictures of models wearing leggings off the runway, in their own clothes? thanks so much!

leggings under dresses are pretty hot but it depends on how you wear them and what type of tress you wear them with.

Isn't leggings or leotards are so 80's?
I remember seeing mom wearing one to work...

They were really popular in the 80's but they were truly the rage in the 60's...

wow i didn't realize how many designers showed them for spring, i like how moschino used them the most.

I am a photographer and stylist and wear my leggings to work almost everyday. They are so comfortable and perfect for all the running around i do on a day to day basis. I always wear them on their own and love them!

I have this awful mental image of this girl who wears grey leggings at my college
