Liya Kebede

Wow, that interview was absolutely horrible! "Negress"? Think before you speak! Who picked him to do the interview?! Probably because he was black. That guys sound like a utter & complete douche! :yuk:

^ I just finished watching it

The show highlighted how she's truely a wonderful human being. I loved the part where she got all emotional when she returned to Ethiopia. I found her determination and the passion she has to do something about the high infant mortality rates in Africa really admirable, it just shows that she's so much more than a model :flower:

Quotes from the people who know Liya... :D

Tom Ford

"She is for me one of the, if not the most breathtakingly beautiful woman in the world. But she also has a great, great personality. Her spirit, soul, that comes through, believe it or not, in a picture. It comes through on the runway, in her photographs. It's a pleasure to work with her."

Joy Phumaphi - Vice President of Human Development in the Work Bank

"Here is a woman who appreciates that she has a responsibility to address the huge margin of exclusion that a lot of women and children are exposed to around the world. She has a calmness that immediately communicates itself to the mother and the child she is seeking to comfort. She makes you believe that you have the potential to solve this problem. This young lady has a vision. She wants every young girl to have the opportunity to grow fast and develop fully before becoming a mother. Her life is not just the modeling industry. Her life is one of sharing. Sharing her experience, spreading the message. "

Amy Astley - Editor of Teen Vogue

"I've been aware of Liya's work for years and I've really admired what she's doing. She remembers her roots and where she came from even though she's scaled the heights of the fashion world. It's a heady place being a supermodel, and traveling the world, she's a jet-setter, a famous model and I've always really loved that she didn't forget the pain and suffering of other people less fortunate than herself, in Ethiopia and in other parts of the developing world. I like that her charity focuses on women and children.I can't say enough nice things about Liya. Obviously, she is a physical beauty, she has something special. She's also a good person. She's a wife, she's a mother, she cares about where she came from. In the fashion world sometimes people can get wrapped-up in the glamor of it and forget their roots, forget where they came from, forget simple kindness to other people. And Liya has never lost sight of how lucky she is, and where she is in the world and how she can help other people, especially people in her native Ethiopia."

^Those quotations you posted gave me shivers, I think she is very inspiring. She's really used her career and her obvious eloquence for other advantage and yet it is clear she is not merely jumping on the bandwagon
