Logo aesthetics

yes gius your right about brand id...
the most successful brands are consistent with the image.
i notice the one's that do not have a brand id or weak one, get lost in the market.

this one's definitely strong^_^

that is nice.
i always love louis vuitton stuff too, even though i don't wear it.
like their scarves with the leather patch, the perfect tissue paper in their gifts, the metal hardware on their bags..so nice

Thank you gius for directing me to this wonderful thread, I find it very interesting indeed. It's great seeing all these labels in one place! .. and very inspiring, I love the Jeanne Lanvin one... ..and as I make and sell clothing as a hobby, I am trying to design that perfect logo. I have two that I designed with my own artwork, I love them, but I have another idea in my mind!.. and it seems the really simple ones work best, which I think I'm slowly getting to.

i really adore the dries van noten label!!
an sometimes the label of "ZARA"

You're welcome, decadentdiamond :lucky: I remember the other tag (on the left) of yours from another entry in your journal.. I agree I think it was your brother that said the design didn't seem to work? I find there is too much detail in the black line drawing that it just becomes unclear what the image is.. And the dark background colours add to that issue. Definitely your new one is much bolder and easy to understand --also has a 'lighter' contemporary feel
I think it's a great flower design too !

we have to design logos/tags too when we were selling our crafts at the student sale here.. I just used my name-- I always thought it would be nice to use your name, although now I think it's not so nice unless it's an unusual or foreign name  Will be looking for a brand name instead for the future ^_^

I always thought using ones name was nice too, my middle name means 'Lotus', and I was obsessed with it when I was very young, and to my horror, the older I got, the more 'Lotus's I saw!.. the car, the shoes, so many things have Lotus in the name.

Many people have told me to use my surname, as it is 15 letters long, but then that just ends up bordering along ridiculous doesn't it? .. and not only that, it's pretty much unpronounceable!! .. I can't even think of any really long brand names?

Anyway, decadentdiamond wasn't an intentional brand name, but this is only my hobby, for now!

I hope its alright to show lesser fashion brands

I like how ebonyivory use very minimalist logos. I guess it is to emphasise how for them the clothes are more important than excessive branding, the printing kind of gives it a homely touch

I'm still trying to find that perfect label design for myself. I changed my 'brand' name, the other one wasn't really working. .. I'm a lot happier with this one, for now! These new labels (cotton canvas) I made are for some tote bags I'm making.. I think I would need to do a slightly more delicate version for clothing.

..Also, I like the blue Ebony Ivory example of it not even being a separate tag.

kind of has a vintage &/or eastern euro feel for me, dd ^

do you make them yourself--
from scratch, printing on the fabric, etc.
or you have them made at a service?

I love vintage so I'm glad you said that! I make all my labels from scratch, I'm too indecisive to spend the money to get loads of one design, in one colour, in the same fabric made up...I get bored quickly too.

Those were made with scrap fabric from bags I'm making, I overlocked the edges, did the design in Photoshop, printed it onto inkjet transfer paper, cut it out and ironed it on, voila! I've made each one to match the bags I've made too... makes them a little bit more special.

oh you used transfer paper for the graphics :o that's nice.. it still looks like fabric. i thought the paper might also transfer... i used one before that did that, and also stiffened it a little--you'd have to cut around the graphic to have less paper transfer to the fabric...

i'd say done by hand is always good :)
then you can change it as often as you like

The Marc Jacobs logo is perfect.

It's just so simple, sophisticated and needs no explanation. My personal favourite.
I want this font file! ^_^

It's not from the official site as it was flash, but here's the source.

Actually, it is unfortunately slightly stiff and you can see a tiny bit of discolouration of the transfer (I didn't cut so close to everything, it's literally just a box).. but because of the loose weave of the fabric, the transfer paper without text on it) doesn't transfer that well, which is great!

If I use the same style for labelling clothing, I would probably do something much smaller.

...and on the subject of simple fonts, I really like the MOSCHINO one.

Oh from the previous replies the nike sign is actually from hermes who was the god of speed/messenger god and his sign was the swoosh and thats how nike got their sign.

Haha I learned this from my history teacher.
