Sophia mystery solved  :flower:

I had a feeling it was that. I just wonder though with all the responsibilty and intent for the Olympics, will all that attention be reflected in the new collection? Nevertheless,I'm confident that it will be great.

I think alot of the reason too,why London isn't so highly praised is that there is a real lack of consistency from designers season to season. Not to say anything about their talent,as there are some great ones;but most can never keep a good thing going. Which I feel is largely to blame on the fact that they don't have that support system like in Paris. So it makes it even more an obstacle to continue doing well. Surprisingly,I think too many don't care about fashion that much in London, otherwise there would be more and more institutions boasting their talents. That's why so many have left.

And perhaps alot of it has to with laziness as well.

the government doesnt support fashion week at all also.......
its real hard for designers to get anywhere

my friend was helping preen find a venue for last seasons show and some places were taking the PISS........asking for £40 000 for 1 day's hire

See,that's a prime example of people's knowledge. Those two aren't exactly rolling in money either.

As for the government issue. Indeed. Its funny,Antwerp as small as it is and less the tourists and money that London or Paris gets, the government(even the monarchy)still supports fashion design.

A tiny bit more to add to Lena's Sophia news from today's WWD:

OLYMPIAN JUMP: London Fashion Week is losing another big name this season — and this time the Olympics are to blame. After creating all the outfits for the opening and closing ceremonies in Athens — more than 6,000 — London-based designer Sophia Kokosalaki is pooped — and behind schedule with her spring collection. As a result, she will be showing in Paris rather than London. “She hasn’t had time to get her collection together yet for the London shows,” said a spokeswoman for the designer. As for the future, she added, “We’re not saying that Sophia will definitely return to London next season — we’ll see how it goes in Paris.”

According to the headline on FASHION WIRE DAILY today ,

SOPHIA KOKOSALAKI will be the next designer for GIVENCHY FEMME , after this autumn's Paris show for S/S 05 , designed by an in-house team .

It's supposed to be a done deal !

Good luck to her . :lucky:

KIT :innocent:

MODERATOR :flower:

Should this news be in a thread of its own , as it's of some importance ?

You please decide .

Kit,I think you should as that's some big news!

Congrats to her!

Waiting for A&A and Giles but where's Arkadius?? His last collection was quite good.

I just read this on Vogue .com. London mayor Ken Livingston"s London development agency signed a 3 year contract with the British fashion council to invest 620,000 in London fashion week with 120,000 available for the shows this month.

I don't have a key for the british money sign, sorry

after new york fashion week, i'm not quite sure i want to see london's...
