With the exception of Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With The Wind, there was a time when he exquisite Loretta Young could get just about any movie part she wanted.

It’s not difficult to see why.

Name at birth: Gretchen Michaela Young

An ingenue in the silent era, Young made the transition to 'talkies' and more mature roles in the 1930s and 40s. She won a Best Actress Oscar for The Farmer's Daughter (1947); her other films include The Bishop's Wife (1947, with Cary Grant and Three Blind Mice (1938, with David Niven). In the 1950s Young hosted her own popular TV series, The Loretta Young Show, winning three Emmy Awards for her performances. In later years Young was especially known for her firm religious convictions and her work with Catholic charities.

Did you know she had a child with Clark Gable?
from wiki:
In 1935, Young had an affair with Clark Gable, who was married at the time, while on location for The Call of the Wild. During their relationship, Young became pregnant. Due to the moral codes placed on the film industry Young covered up her pregnancy in order to avoid damaging her career (as well as Gable's). Returning from a long "vacation" (during which she secretly gave birth to her daughter), Young announced that she had adopted the little girl. The child was raised as "Judy Lewis" after taking the name of Young's second husband, producer Tom Lewis.

Eeek! Gorgeous. Especially that last pic. Sad to hear about the secret daughter though.

She is so beautiful. What would you guys say is her best film?
I couldnt say which one is her best because she did so many great films, I think The Stranger is one of the films she was noted for!:flower:

Can I just say, I saw They Call it Sin, a few days ago on TCM, and she looks gorgeous as always but the funny part is wherein she got so mad at this guy who stole her song so she started fighting with him and spatting him, and the look on her face when she's angry,... it was soo cute!!!^_^

She had such a childlike innocence (those wide, liquid eyes!) and grace that her beauty projects a kind of touching, almost heartbreaking quality. So lovely.

Here's one of my favourites of her:

I have one picture when she was still called Gretchen (before the name change). She was 14 yrs. old I believe. The other one was taken when she was filming some kind of medival yarn. Anyway, enjoy!loretta young then gretchen 14 yrs. old.jpg

I like her older pics, she's was so beautiful, not so crazy about her war\post-war pics but that's probably because I hate the era style wise.

^ For some reason the 1940's styles didn't really agree with Loretta, that's why I prefer her earlier and later pictures. :)
