A Louis Vuitton show is a lot like the movies: the plot may seem familiar, but the colors are brighter, the shapes are subtler, and the combination of quirk and luxe is almost too stylish for this world. Marc Jacobs followed the script to a tee for his latest resort collection, serving up fresh takes on '40s-via-'70s looks. Navy blue and white, the jet-setter's bread and butter, mingled with super-saturated shades of raspberry and azure, or confectionary visions in mint green and lemon cookie yellow. If razor-sharp blazers and knife pleats were his leading man, then fluid, volumininous sleeves and ultra-feminine high waists were fit for a silver screen diva. Cheeky retro prints featuring speedboats, ocean liners, anchors, and airplanes meanwhile provided an endlessly enjoyable supporting cast, while high-gloss silks and tweeds that shimmered with swingy movement rounded out this all-around crowd pleaser.
