Louis Vuitton 'The Spirit of Tavel' 2025 by Alec Soth

Vuitton's "The Spirit of Travel" can be one of their better campaigns - although we seem to be going through a phase in fashion ads at the moment, where the formula is just 'drop product into landscape' and then hope people are impressed by the scenery.

I do like a landscape, but the imagery makes no real effort to seduce me into a must-have-it mood, things feel flat, as if there isn't any real connection to the surroundings, and no effort being made to convince me about any of it.

Still beautiful. Vuitton’s institutional campaigns are always perfect.
That’s the balance that is missing at Gucci…

You don’t need celebrities or influencers to sell products that are constantly on the catalogue. Relying on the DNA of the house should be enough!

AMAZING... But I wanted a model in the photos.

the fact that there isn't a more evident human presence almost completely obliterates the beautiful scenarios. long gone are the ads with Arizona Muse...

This is bad as a campaign cause with such a beautiful scenery no one’s is doing a Where’s Waldo to look at those bags

This looks exactly like the 2019 spirit of travel campaign with Rianne and Fei Fei. Don't get why they didn't use any models.

They’re beautiful shots, but when there’s no model or person in there whatsoever I’m looking at these going “how’d the luggage get there?”

The train set up and paper pin wheels I think are odd selects though. They’re arbitrary and don’t really make me think of travel. I’m just reminded of a pointless Wes Anderson like eccentricity for the sake of it.
