While Karl Lagerfeld was literally having his work cut out for him at Chanel Haute Couture (by Kamo, a Japanese hairdresser who created the show’s elaborate paper headdresses)...

i just discovered the origami artist and scientist Robert Lang, i see that his work is here already posted.

There's an inspirational talk by him on the Ted.com website, with amazing examples.
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/robert_lang_folds_way_new_origami.html

What is really fascinating to me is the mix of art and science in origami. In order to make some form out of one piece of uncut paper, he seeked help from mathematics! The crease patterns look even more aesthetic than the finished pieces themselves!
For example, scorpion and its pattern. There are lots of pictures in his website

Paper has been used in fashion in various cultures and historical periods, but it is still a little known and little studied phenomenon. With the exhibition, PAPER FASHION, the Fashion Museum, in collaboration with Atopos Cultural Organisation, reveals this exceptional niche in the history of fashion. Beginning with a unique collection of 1960s’ paper dresses from the Atopos collection, PAPER FASHION focuses on the use of paper and related materials in modern and contemporary fashion.

The Latest project from Isabella Rosselini.
isabella1.jpg

Her new, art house shorts are bite size-at only a minute long-and they look at the world of animal reproduction. “Green p*rno”. (they are office safe !) is in its second series, having studied insects and sea life.

Rosselini worked with Andy Byers on giant paper sets, with paper costumes too. It’s cool to see craft on a super scale and on such a fun project. The prawn is the best, like a giant piñata and the limpet hat that Isabella is wearing could be straight off an underwater catwalk.

Ebon Heath cuts out thousands of paper letters for several weeks and assembles them on fishing lines.

“I present letters as a living, corporal being.”- EBON HEATH

“grown in opposition to urban ‘noise’ created through advertising mediums in the modern day landscape, stereotype explodes the written word.”- EBON HEATH

My white Midsummer shade by Tord Boontje simply makes me smile. It’s made of Tyvek, a super-resistant paper. So nice!

I also want one in fuchsia, and one in vivid green.

Paper exhibition - Vancouver, Canada

2eojp6s.jpg

August 11 to August 16
10:00 am to 5:00 pm

BC - Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival - 2009
Fibre, Naturally
Paper Like You Have Never Seen it Before

The Korean art of Hanji is a centuries-old tradition of making paper from the inner bark of a mulberry tree. Historically this paper has been used for everything from umbrellas, to lanterns, books to floor coverings. Today's artists are taking Hanji in new directions, weaving and felting with paper and creating many beautiful objects as well as art to wear.
The Vancouver Guild of Fibre Arts, the Greater Vancouver Weavers' and Spinners' Guild, FibreEssence and the Millenium Jeonju Hanji Forum, in partnership with Emily Carr University of Art + Design, the Craft Council of BC and the Canadian Society for Asian Arts are proud to present an exhibition and fashion show of works in paper.
Fibre, Naturally will be held in the Concourse Gallery at Emily Carr from August 11 to 16, 2009. This exciting exhibition will showcase the work of Korean as well as local fibre artists, using paper for hangings, boxes, books, knitted or woven pieces, and some extraordinary garments. These latter will be featured in a fashion show on the evening of Thursday, August 13, at the Emily Carr Theatre, South Building.

For tickets or more information contact the Craft Council of BC.

Oh my goodness, this is my first post, and i am awed by the beautiful and creative things people can do with paper!
i feel like trying to contribute, but know that anything i make will probably pale horribly in comparison.
