Madras S/S 06

what are madras exactly (According to Old Navy, this is what we ought to be wearing this spring?)

It looks pretty much like plaid/tartan in the commercial, which is usually a fall/winter thing, but, this is definitely spring wear...

Here is an example

THIS IS SOOO CREEPY, no less than 20 minutes ago I was watching thier commercial and was thinking that Old Navy, much like Gap, does whatever they want, buy fabric sight unseen, then they do a media blitz in order to convince everyone that it is indeed in.

I kind of like the Madras, just not thiers...I really dont like Old Navy...

Gasp! I do think some of thier flip flops are cute...

I think Im gonna stop by the one by me and look at these in person, also, didnt they just start hawking the Madras stuff? How come the swimshorts are already on sale?

i like pale 'sunbleached' madras for summer,
mainly in light voile and when in shirts with puff sleeves and frill details
i could also do with a pair of long, roomy, madras 'shorts'

their look fresh and yes, it seems like a trend.

JCrew has the nicest madras IMO. It is the real thing, lightweight cotton that are patches sewn together and the patterns are subtle.

I remember that patchwork madras when I was a kid, it was in every single Talbots catalog for years (and back then they had menswear, and it wasn't all private label). I am so not up for it this time around ;)

Whenever I see madras, I think of madre, which means mom, and then I think "Tu madras!"...and then that just makes me laugh to myself.

...yes, odd train of though.:ninja:

Don't like them, though.

I have a pair of Miu Miu madras shorts from seasons ago, well its plaid, and I don't know where the heck they're at.

I wanna find a greyscale madras printed shirt.

i watched the old navy ad on tv the other day...and i liked the dress. :ninja:

the old navy blazer was kind of cute...too bad it is probably cheaply made and ill-fitting.

it doesn't "do" anything for me.....looks like it belongs at a beach in martha's vineyard.

I just bought a bubble mini strappless dress in madras. It's really adorable.

the ones i saw at Zara seem quite cute (but not for me)

I completely agree. Old Navy does not really make anything that attractive.

I like plaids of all kinds. Madras seems pretty fresh to me, and I've seen it styled where it looks pretty cute. I'm thinking specifically of editorials with the madras dresses that APC makes.

But this might be another item of clothing that's better in theory than in practice. I agree that it's pretty casual.

I ordered the madras bikini from JCrew recently (which, incidentally, is another one of their items that was backordered almost immediately). But, no. The bikini bottom had elastic legs and looked like a diaper on me.
