Hello. Can you please suggest any good make-up book/cd? I just started investing in good make-up products and I'm still learning how to put my own make-up. I don't even know what a primer is:blush: . I've read a lot of magazines but I wanna have something like a make-up bible. Any ideas?

^_^

I have a couple makeup books to recommend you. If you don't have have a lot of money right now I would recommend you to buy Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin the most. The book has one or more pages on every part of makeup.
Concealer, foundation, powder, eyebrows, mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipliner, lipstick, lipgloss and blush.
There's a lot of pictures in the book with both unknown and very well known women, and also a couple men.
My favourite part of the book is when celebrity women are potrayed as legends and icons such as: Marilyn Monroe, Jean Harlow, Greta Garbo, Josephine Baker, Ingrid Bergman, Dorothy Dandgride.
On every makeup look in the book he writes what products you need and he also writes very detailed how you get all the makeup looks.
There's a lot of drawings on basically on every page which makes it a lot easier.
Kevyn writes a lot about other things not just makeup but also people, life the world and so on.

Face Forward by Kevyn Aucoin is also very focused of legends and icons. Celebrites are potrayed as Marilyn Monroe, Julie Christie, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren Faye Dunaway, Marlene Dietrich, Maria Callas, Twiggy, Barbra Streisand, Cher, Angie Dickinson. And of course a lot of unknown women.

The Art of Makeup by Kevyn Aucoin is also extremely good.

Other books I can recommend are:

Makeup Your Mind by Francois Nars. (If you search on Francois Nars here on Fashion Spot you can see a lot of pictures from the book)

Teenage Beauty:Everything to look pretty, natural, sexy & awesome
Beauty Evolution
and maybe Beauty (even though I haven't bough it yet.

The World's Best-Kept Beauty Secrets by Diane Irons. She writes about model's Secrets, fashion, hands and feet, hair, skin and of course makeup. I love it even though it doesn't have any pictures in it.

I have all the books above exept for Bobbi Brown's Beauty.
I Love all the books that I have but I love Kevyn Aucoin's books the most. He is my big hero.   And the biggest reason why I wanna become a makeup artist. He means so much to me I can't even describe to you.

Books that I'm sure I gonna love but haven't bought yet.
Makeup Your Mind 2 by Francois Nars.
Paul Starr on Beauty: Conversations with Thirty Celebrated Women.
Makeup: The Art of Beauty by Linda Mason.
Trish McEvoy: The Power of Makeup: Look Your Level Best of Every Age by Trish McEvoy.

I hope you love the books I have as much as I do!!

I second making faces by kevyn aucoin. Amazing. Face forward and art of makeup are very good too. He's just amazing. His books are more "cofee table" type books though, not "makeup for beginners" type books. Still, very very great books, and there is lots to learn from them.

Iman's new book is great too, even if you're not non-caucasion. I love how she explains things. Like a true diva.

Bobbi Brown books are also really good or starters. She explains everything, and gives a good breakdown of how to apply everything.

I disagree with you I think Making Faces is an extremely good book for beginners. But I respect your opinion.

Maybe I'm confusing his books! I don't own them, and I read them all at once. But one of them is more of a pretty coffee table book, the others have more tutorial in them. Or that's what I thought.

Thanks for the awesome replies Platinum Blonde and cardboardboxed! I've been browsing Amazon right now, I think I'll be getting Making Faces. Please keep your inputs coming!

Of Kevyn Aucoin's books I think his second book Making Faces is the best choice. His other two books are just as good in my opinion. But in those he doesn't write so much about beauty basics. So I agree on you of that part Cardboardboxed. If you are very interested in makeup I think you should buy all three. Beacause it's so worth it.

How great that you gonna buy it!! I hope you love it!
This may sound dramatic but the his books made/makes my life so much richer and happier.

Amazing! it's honestly an amazing book. And if you don't mind getting used copies, usually amazon has used copies of books for really cheap.. and most of the time they're in great condition, just the cover's a bit worn. Well, cheaper books mean more books!
