"Malcolm McLaren, the former Sex Pistols manager who is credited with helping form the legendary U.K. punk band, has died at the age of 64 after a battle with cancer. “He had been suffering from cancer for some time, but recently had been full of health, which then rapidly deteriorated,” McLaren’s spokesman Les Molloy told The Independent. Molloy confirmed McLaren died in New York this morning; his body will be moved to London for burial in Highgate Cemetery.
An icon of the punk movement that swept Great Britain in the mid-Seventies, McLaren got his start as a fashion designer who opened up a clothing shop with Vivienne Westwood called Let It Rock. While in New York City to start up a new boutique, he became the New York Dolls manager, a role he held until their breakup in 1976. After working with the Dolls and returning to London, McLaren wanted to start up his own band — the misfit group of punks would later be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as the Sex Pistols."

i didn't either! wow...that's very sad. he was uber-cool....credited for helping not only establish SEX with Viv but he is also credited for ushering the early 80's buffalo style with stylist extraordinaire judy blame. he was really the first who melded fashion and music together almost as a singular medium. he was pioneer in creative fashion. he will be missed. thankfully we still have his legacy in fashion and in music.

RIP

I thought he'd be with us for longer than this... I didn't realise he had mesothelioma, a form of cancer which can develop many decades after exposure to asbestos, back when people weren't so aware of the damage it caused when you breathe it in.

OH NOOOO!
So soon? he was truly talented and influential!
RIP

John Lydon - signing his statement as Johnny Rotten - has said: "For me Malc was always entertaining, and I hope you remember that. Above all else he was an entertainer and I will miss him, and so should you."

McLaren has done so much for punk rock and British fashion in general.
you will be missed.

He was a very influential person, and still is. I know he touched many people in fashion and music -- all genre. I was introduced to him by way of hip-hop. When I was a kid "Malcolm McLaren & The World's Famous Supreme Team" was a favorite.

loved seeing him talk on tv.. always something interesting to say and so upbeat,,i didn't know he was sick either. will definitely miss him being around!
