Marc Jacobs F/W 2021.22 New York

Marc distilling all the things he currently loves into this collection through his ever-irreverent sometimes mad-cap but always stylish POV.

You know after watching the runway I have to say I kinda like the pictures better…

I know it’s MJ and he is familiar with it…But too much current fashion, derivative of other designers for my taste. Yes it’s well executed, simple American sportswear and I think it can finally get people excited to wear MJ Runway but I’m certainly not going to applaud Marc for doing what I hate seeing in other designers…

Do we need to see Valentino from 2 years ago in a MJ collection? Do we need to see the logos treated in a Alexander Wang way?

I like the colors but the oversized trend needs to go away.

I wish he would do something lighter and less over the top. The volumes are severe and reminiscent of Balenciaga, and so are the colors. Unfortunately nothing looks new or original here. Women are not going to find that emotional connection with these clothes. He missed an opportunity to present a clean level headed collection. Instead we got a desperate man clinging on for dear life with the leftovers of other designers. If clothes could speak, these could fill a novel, and not in a good way. At this point they should retire RTW completely and focus entirely on accessories. Maybe if he’s lucky he could find a job at another house.

It’s just ok.

I kind of like that it’s an exclusive for Bergdorf’s….for some reason that feels kind of fresh? As big prestige retailers begin to fail, and designers do, too, teaming up to share the cost to produce new, interesting clothes could be a viable way forward for all parties.

However, I wish, that the collection to be made with Bergdorfs would have been his last Fall show - which was excellent. One of his best. A shame that collection never got to live beyond the runway show…but what a show it was!

Anyway…it’s a show that just doesn’t feel memorable. It doesn’t really have much to say, I don’t think. You’d think that with all that time off, Marc would have figured out something really compelling to say instead of just a “commentary” on “the current state.”
