I finally understand why New York has such a high suicide rate.

Hahaha the shade! I will give my own snarky opinion on this, once I collect the courage to actually see this whole train-wreck...

He needs to stop watching RuPaul's Drag Race, honestly. His clothes these days are so unnecessarily big and loud. It feels incredibly gimmicky.

This is awful, not to mention the blatant Slimane nods.

MESS. what is this? i see gucci, slimane's slp, hell even jeremy scott, wtf?

but guess props to marc for beating Demna Gvasalia to those MTV sweatshirts

LOL @ the shade. I think he was most deserving out of all the nominees...his Spring and fall collections were flawless.
He is still under the influence of his spring collection. It's ore tacky, more 80's...a bit Sprouse-ish. It's like a big best-of of what he has done since leaving Vuitton. His inlfuences are always consistent.

I think the success of Vetements and Gucci by Michele gives him more confidence but we can't say that he is copying.

There are some great pieces: the trenchcoats, the wrap skirts, some great jackets. I don't care that much for the eveningwear.
The "MTV" sweatshirts will be the most photographed pieces of the resort season with the "Coco Libre" Chanel t-shirt and the "Union-Jack" Gucci knit.

I kinda like it...

Fine if he wants to revisit 1983 MTV’s version of New Wave mixed with that cheap and trashy maximalism that kids seem to love just because it’s clearly bad taste.

But why do it so intentionally ugly, with all the glittering, clashing patchwork and unflattering, big shapes that’s so easy to put together with DIY and thriftstore finds? I’m bored with this deliberate cheapness and ugliness that designers seem to find so ironic with a ridiculously expensive price tag attached.

It already feels tired after seeing it once. And as decent as the foil-print slim 70s dresses and long trenches look, I also get the feeling they'll quickly lose their desirability after wearing it once or twice.

This type of collection defines fast high fashion.

He's such an it girl turned soccer mom, just like slimane, reminiscing their 'young days' over and over and so obsessed about it they don't even realise how out of touch they are. Catering now to the 90s-obsessed tumblr generation when in order to nail it, you must've abandoned the 90s in the first place, which he never did, it's all a mix of Edward Scissorhands as a real doctrine, but then wanting to revisit it ironically.. a bit sad.

haha, this is really quite bad, from the annoying music to the hairdo and the clothes. But I feel it seems to reflect even older than 90s, perhaps even 70s, whatever it is, it is just bad and the clothes doesnt look well made. I thought it was marc by marc jacobs at first glance until i remember it is now defunct.
it doesnt even look inspired just like an exact copy of the clothes from before.

I never like marc jacobs, this just confirms it. Strangely enough, the audience also seem to be dressing the part lol

^^^ The audience is dressing the part— complete with kitten-heels with 80s gym socks, because they are all a herd of “It girl turned soccer mom”... The sting is real LOL

If that has-yet-to-be-realized publication that doesn’t play by, or employed by, the current corporate rules, Mullet would deserve to be their lead copywriter.

When Marc walked out for the finale, his posture— you know, that carefully arched back with his a*s strategically sticking out, the posture of the typical twink-with-the-it-bag pose, I couldn’t help but cringe a little. “It girl turned soccer mom” defined.

My problem with this show is by and large the styling. Such heavy 80's styling, hair, makeup, accessories all make this way too literal. It's the same problem I had with Loewe Fall/Winter 2015....the 80's are a tough decade to reference....you really need to take the references out of their context to see the value in them. I always think of Ghesquiere's Fall/Winter 2009 collection for Balenciaga as the definitive and most appealing collection a designer has ever done that references the garish 80's but does it in a way that's so modern, fresh, attractive and beautiful. It avoided the pitfalls of teased hair, jewel toned makeup and flashy accessories to complete the look.

Had this collection been styled in a much more pared back way, had the hair and makeup been fresh, pretty and natural, had the shoes and accessories been more "classic," etc etc this could have been a decent collection with some fun pieces. I see some beautiful clothes with interesting, playful and rich details, masterful and inventive construction (as always with Marc Jacobs), it's just a shame that it's all styled so literally and unimaginatively.

I have the impression that the show was settled on the last minute, but it could be just how camera people did it.

I'm not into Marc, since always, but I have to admit that the summer and fall collection were great, however this resort it's hard to shallow... Idk, seems like a bad parody of the fall collecetion... I have sure that a regular Marc consumer can do great things with some of this pieces, like c'mon, there is gret coots, great skirts... In the end of day I kinda like it.

And poor models... There's was something on the floor, for sure.

LOL. Bianca Del Rio, is that you?

I'm sure the individual pieces are fine, but I wish he'd stop trying to appeal to teenage Tumblr hipsters. It just reads as desperate.

I hate when Marc goes 80s. He only references the worst parts of the decade, truly.

Yes that collection was great but fery focused on two concepts: draping and "flou".

I think Marc has referenced the 80's in more successful ways at Vuitton. His fall 2000 Vuitton collection was inspired by the magazine Jill and the underground scene of 80's fashion whereas his fall 2009 and 2008 (at Vuitton) were more about the decadence of it.

The same for Nicolas. He has always been inspired by the 80's...Mostly Alaia and Gaultier but he also explored the worst of the 80's with his fall 2012 collection.

I think designers like to explore that "ugly" and "tacky" part of the 80's.

IMO the Marc Jacobs line has a different spirit that allow the tackiness and the obvious bad taste (even if the styling is poor).
I don't think that he has ever done a "classy" 80's inspired collection under his own name.

i know luella bartley has left the building, but she clearly is not forgotten...
...

if i pulled this apart, there are actually a lot of single items that really appeal to me as street wear...
and big wow pieces that scream for editorial coverage as well...
but it's more like marc by, than marc jacobs...
i hope the price points will reflect that...

:innocent:

I must be the first to say I loved the collection. Late 80's american pop "MTV" culture, work mother I live! I'm gonna need ALL the MTV sweaters, all the leather skirts, all acid wash jean outfits with the sequin boots, and ALL the dresses.

Some things were a bit much, leopard, camouflage, and a checker print (black & white at that) all bombarding my vision. The huge ugly track jackets

Good collection, to me Marc is best when he takes it there.
