Just wondering - if a designer shows pieces of womenswear within their menswear collection (such as the gorgeous pieces from JPG) - is this an indiction of what their full blown womenswear range might be like?

To me it would make sense, but maybe they just design some womenswear to compliment the menswear....

From what I have seen over the past few years, it generally compliments the men's looks. Versace, Cavalli, and Dolce & Gabbana, to name a few, are designers that have been doing this for several seasons, and what is presented is a play on the looks for the men.

thanks LostInNJ :)

are the women's designs then sold in stores alongside the main collection?

agreed, i dont think it's a big indication of whats coming in september, more of a compliment, but, i've never really understood why designers do it, it's almost as if they dont have the confidence to just show their menswear lines, which i feel backfires, as the collections looks stronger and more confident when kept just to mens.

i've just been looking at some past examples. A slight similarity I guess but nothing major.

i guess we could say jean paul gaultier doesnt count really... since there's always a similar feeling from season to season... the use of materials, palette, etc...:P

I think Prada has always used menswear to indicate for the direction of womenswear to come...hence the shaggy chic this F/W

I presumed it was because there would be women in the audience buying clothes for their rich husbands (or whatever because they are too busy to go to a pointless show etc) and the womenswear is kind of to tempt them into buying something for theirselves too :p

[i had problems with this sentence, it may not make sense]

yes it's right... Prada see her mens/womenswear collections as a (lover) "couple"...

i think prada is an unintentioned foreshadowing of the womenswear... i dont think they wanna introduce it, they jsut want both lines to make sense when the reach the stores and that means they have to show some of they ideas a little in advanced

Versace: Because donatella doesn't want the people to realize how dull her menswear is. So she adds a little bit glam (hop hop hop, an embroidered dress on a sexy girl).
