Maternity fashions

what I did was get trousers that I liked anyway and take them to the alteration shop and have them insert elestic triangles down each side seam....that way they fit you but they stretch in the tummy where you will grow.....

You can do the same with skirts.....

ya i was thinking of doing that.
i never knew it d be such a hassle to find maternity clothes, and everywhere i check people are complaining about the same thing

So it seems like this thread is going to be important inspiration for me the next few months... :) Hanne, thanks for the great pics from mydailystyle! She's definitely looking fantastic! Dresses will be a big one for me as well.

mama style - prego, new mom, (bfing, baby carrying) & beyond

Of course in various celebrity threads we get to see examples of wonderful mama style, but I'd love to have a thread devoted to stylish moms where we could collect those threads as well as post pictures.

I think the thread could deal with pregnancy style, which there are a lot more resources for now such as that Yummy Mummy book, Isabella Oliver, lots of celeb style.

Even more than pregnancy style, I'd LOVE to see new mom style for when you are still adjusting to your new body.

And if you are breastfeeding, staying fashionable while breastfeeding (and baby-carrying!) sometimes seems even more difficult than staying fashionable while pregnant. There's a lot of hideous stuff out there ...Motherhood Maternity nursing clothes I am looking at you. My daughter is 17 months and still breastfeeds occasionally so I am still dealing with this.

Anyhow, I think my top new mom tip for feeling fabulous through fashion (if that is your thing) is to buy one of those patterned 4ply-thread pashminas like the kind they sell cheap in nyc and use that as a baby sling / nursing cover if you need one. Do your baby-friendly accessories (stud earrings, bangle bracelets, make-up, pendant necklace on a tough chain or cord), and do not skimp on stiff undergarments that hold you in. I felt soooo much better once I started wearing my accessories and a good bra. A girdle is not the enemy either. Get it in black or nude lace, and it's even sexy with the right bra and a high-waisted skirt with a loose blouse tucked in.

Use a real bag instead of a diaper bag.

A babycarrying resource that has better styling than most is Ellevill. http://www.ellevill.com/

How do you find tops and silhouettes that work with your fashion?

What are your tips, TFS mamas?

It's nice to see that women pay attention on their outfits and want to look good even when they're pregnant. I really like people who look stylish and fabulous during every period of their lives!

Ugh I can't wear heels! I wore heels to work last week and I was DYING by the end of the day. Too much pressure on my back!
I'm pretty much living in baggy tees, skinny jeans, and boots. It's all about accessorizing when you're preggo!
