I especially like the idea of an belt..with lycra in it (don't know if the Marni versions here are like that)
so the wear isnt limited to a couple of months..alot of pregnant women like to have an extra bit of support on the stomach
(NOT to be confused with a corset or anything putting pressure on the stomach)

Excellent thread. If I ever get pregnant, I think I will special-order a dress like the Rosemary's Baby one because it's so pretty...even though the movie was bloody scary.

Those are cute....usually places of kinda frumpy stuff but lately I've been seeing places that have nicer maternity wear...like some shop called Peas in a Pod and nine or something like that...

Hanne - I hope you are doing well  you've posted lots of good pics all suitable for bumps. I have the marni belt in the first of your Marni pics - I can guarantee it would be no good to a pregnant person !!!!! Its murder to wear - not very comfy - but it does look good.

Have you heard of a London shop called '9 London' - it has some decent stuff...

So what kind of things have you been wearing? ARe skirts not easier that trousers - just with a bigger size so they sit on yor hips?

I have always wondered about coats/jackets - can you not just wear you normal coats/jackets but leave them open?

Runner posted some pics in the Bless thread (designers section) with some preganat girls wearing some really cool stuff.

Hi Helena, I'm doing great.
I kinda had a feeling that the Marni belt wasn't bump-friendly..so it was more meant as an inspirstion for those DIY people out there.
Thank you so much for making me aware of the 9 London store http://www.9london.co.uk/
I might be going to London in either December or January or both, so I'll be sure to check that place out!

As for what I'm wearing, I wear both skirts and pants.
A girlfriend of mine made both skirts and pants with extremely broad elastic waistbands (from just below the tummy and to the middle/top)...as long as it has a strechable band over the tummy it doesn't make a difference to me if its pants or skirts..only annoying part about wearing skirts are the issue of tights..because normal fitting tights cut into the stomach, which both looks and feels uncomfortable.
Maternity tight usually come in black, black and black (tho' Formes have some in rather dull looking colours)..and sofar the ones I've bought are not a great fit..they sag.. :( The only tights that actually work well for me are Top Shops cheap on-size fits all..so I think I'll be buying more of those in colours when I go to London.
Items that contain lycra have become stables, I do have a couple of skirts that oversize..but that is generally not working well for me because my hips are slender and not going to hold anything up.
My fitted coats and jackets are hanging in the back of my wardrobe (My boobs have run havock..and I now have boobs going all the way up my armpits...yes what a charming image..I'm giving Lindsey Lohan a run for her money  , which makes form fitting jackets a lot less comfortable)
..My looser coats I can luckily still fit (around my tummy I'm currently 91 cm/53'5 inch) but...come January/February that might become a problem..
and temperatures in Copenhagen tend to be 5-7 Celsius below that of London..so leaving my coats open by then isn't an option..unless I wear a lot of wool..especially since I freeze so easily.

everyone i know had to buy a special maternity coat...if you buy a nice style..you can still wear it post baby...but the regular ones won't close as hanne said...

oddly enough i am sort of an expert on the topic as i had to do several projects involving maternity wear for a magazine i used to work for...plus two of my best friends and now a third have recently had babies...

unfortunateey all the websites i know are in the US... :ermm:
i'll look them up and post them anyway just for reference... :flower:

Hanne - what did you think of the 9 London website? did you like any of it? Its quite expensive for maternity clothes. What about cool vintage coats - 50's princess styles would be amazing I think.

I liked it alot Helena, but you are right the prices were quite expensive..still it would be good to go and have a look.

I have a cool vintage coat given to me by my very chic grandmother, that I'm sure would work, and it would save me from having to look of a winter coat (and have some extra stach of cash for when my body returns to normal (?) )

I liked the Muji stuff..but from my brief look at the co.uk site I couldn't tell if they carry maternity wear as well..my guess is not :(

H& M does maternity too. I suspect being able to sew would come in v. handy. oh yes - just remembered - nuala does maternity stuff too. do a google search for it ....nice tunics I think. Yoga stuff would be good wouldn't it?

Definately..and I should have added H&M..the latest pair of maternity pants I got was from H&M..but generally H&M's maternity collection is dull beyond words.

Nuala : http://nuala.puma.com/ Very comfy looking clothes :flower:

yes I have a pregnant friend & she got all her stuff from H&M & its sooo boring. she's not into fashion so she doesn't care. but even with boring stuff you can still wear cool shoes & expensive scarves/bags etc.

thanks Runner - some of those things are really nice - I like the skirt dress. I am not surprised that japanese girls are cool & trendy even when they are pregnant. And the idea of wearing coloured long socks is a really good one. I am sure Hanne will appreciate! I see some of the posts have fallen off this topic whilst tFS was shut.

thanks runner!!! Nice to see you again.
