She is flat out adorable, love her personality
Nineteen year old Parisian stunner Mathilde Frachon's endearing blue-green puppy dog eyes may have been discovered by a scout on her native rues de Paris, but the fetching 5'10" Frachon has more than an appetite for Ladurée (her favorite local macaroons). The exuberant tourist has expanded her tastes this Fall 2009 fashion month with consummate castings in the New York, London, and Milan presentations -– even developing a love of New York's famed bagels along the way. I first spotted Mathilde backstage at Erin Fetherston during New York Fashion Week and was instantly smitten with her playful pout, wistful stare and flowing hair. Soon thereafter I took note of her closing the Nathan Jenden presentation in London and donning bonny Minnie Mouse ears at Moschino Cheap & Chic in Milan and swiftly knew that I just had to catch up with the fresh face and fellow Gossip Girl fan in the City of Lights! Voilà:
What makes you laugh uncontrollably?
Very cynical people, like my model friend Suzy Bird and her famously sardonic sense of humor. Generally speaking, dark humor makes me laugh. If, for example, I am caught in a really bad situation -– even if is not remotely funny -– it's a sure thing that I will crack up hysterically.
Do you ever become homesick while traveling? Do you bring any mementos or keepsakes from home with you?
I love traveling, so homesickness is not much of a problem. Athough after a long fashion month, I am really happy to be in my home city for Paris Fashion Week with all my friends and familiar surroundings.
Any fun fashweek anecdotes or stories thus far?
Of course! But it's a secret...
What is the most stressful aspect of fashion week? And the best part?
The most stressful part for me is waiting to know whether or not I will be confirmed for a given event. The absolute best part is the moment just a few minutes before the show begins when you feel the tension to succeed yet are so excited to experience it! Also getting to know so many different types of people is a blessing.
While traveling abroad, what do you like to do in new cities? Where are your favorite places to shop in the fashion capitals?
I am definitily crazy about New York; that said, the best place to shop is London. Last time I was in London I stopped by Topshop and, oh my god, I bought practically everything! It's just great... but it unfortunately doesn't exist here in Paris.
Who are your favorite fictional characters?
Seth Cohen from The O.C. and Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl!
What are your last thoughts prior to stepping out onto the runway?
"Just go!" and, of course: "Be good!"
How do you keep yourself entertained backstage?
My iPod or having a quick chit-chat with a friend.
What is your favorite meal of the day? How would you rate your cooking ability?
I thoroughly love breakfast... I eat everything: cereal, toast, jam, coffee and muffins are my usuals. Oh yes, I'm bananas about bagels... which is one of the reasons why I love for New York so much! When cooking, my specialty is "escalope panée à la crème."
Who do you trust more than anyone else?
My mum, of course.
What are your absolute favorite fashion magazines?
Vogue and Dazed & Confused
Which words/phrases do you most frequently (over)use?
"Mais tellement," "merde" and "HYPER"!
Do you ascribe to a particular life philosophy?
Not especially... I just try to enjoy each day in my life.
