The adorable, wide-eyed Maud Welzen was plucked from her tiny hometown in the south of Holland to debut at the spring 2011 Burberry Prorsum and Christopher Kane shows in London. Currently signed with DNA Model Management, Welzen's agent, Akeem Rasool, is "most proud that Maud has proven herself in the modeling's toughest market: New York." The 17-year-old impressed this city's casting elite, including Michelle Lee, who cast her for Marc Jacobs; Russell Marsh, who cast her for BCBG Max Azria; Ashely Brokaw, who cast her for Tommy Hilfiger; and Maida Gregori Boina and Rami Fernandes, who cast her for Calvin Klein. Few models seduce all those names their first time walking the New York shows. Overseas, Welzen modeled for an impressive roster of designers, including Gucci, Prada, Marni, Valentino, and Lanvin. Among her many forthcoming editorials is one for Interview, and she's already been courted to model for a top Italian fashion house.

How did you get discovered?
I was discovered in Paris when I was there on a school trip at the age of 13. After that, my mom came in contact with Elite Amsterdam; then I started modeling.

What's the craziest thing you ever saw backstage?
It's always crazy backstage, but it's hilarious when a model is very late for a show and [she has] six people doing her hair, makeup, and nails all at once.

What's one thing you have in the Netherlands that you can't find in New York, Milan, or Paris?

A kroket — it's a Dutch fried snack, and it's really good!

What cool shoots have you done recently?
I did, a few weeks ago, a shoot for Interview magazine in a supermarket.

What's been playing on your iPod lately?

New House Mix 2010 — it's a Dutch house remix.

Favorite model?
Kate Moss because she has a great sense of style and she has done a lot for the current fashion scene.

What other aspirations do you have outside of modeling?
I really would like to work with kids if I was not a model.

Tell us a secret.
Once I found a mouse under my bed in an apartment in Paris. I am terrified of mice! I couldn't sleep for days.

I hope these haven't already been posted

Such a pretty girl and others would loose fingers to have the runway season she had, but I wonder if she can take it to the next level:unsure: Sometimes 'pretty' doesn't cut it in this business. But I wish her lots of luck.
Also she is like a hybrid of Toni Garnn & Katrin Thormann.

I don't get the phenomenon of girls having brilliant runway seasons and then completely fizzling/disappearing afterward. That's happened with a lot of my recent favorites and it's so... annoying!

She's incredibly gorgeous but I'm afraid her striking resemblance to Katrin won't exactly help her career. Maybe I'm naive to think so, but I can see her booking runway jobs all she wants, if an editor was looking for her look they'd still go for the "real thing", aka Katrin.

(I hope that doesn't sound too confused .
