How does everyone feel about them? They've become increasingly trendy, but i really like them..

I know these three are z-listers, but i like the skirts

I really like them too... I think they flatter everyone but I think they ONLY way they look good is if the skirt is paired with a fitted top.

Roppal, next time you post pics, please add the photo credits, and posting runway pictures or pics from the company itself does help a lot. :flower:

I have always wondered, what is the difference between maxi and peasant skirts anywhere?

Is it due to the length or the tiered effect?

Some of my fav. looks from the runway for this trend:

Roberto Cavalli:

And the Victoria Beckham skirt B) :

I think for fall, fashion will move away from the boho looks and towards something more victorian.

No more gypys and pirates.. I love these skirts for their comfort though.
Though sadly, I must admit that the boho/peasant/maxi skirt trend has been worked to death.

Oh well, I shall wait for it to come back again!

More from Jean Paul Gaultier S/S 05 RTW(those and the cavalli pics were probably what sparked it off for me):

And I love this look, I see a touch of goth in it..does it make sense?

I think maxi skirts and peasant skirts are the same thing are they not??

Thanks for adding photo credits Chiangsi. ;)

Is MAXI a brand or is it a style!?

Maxi refers to the length. Same way Mini refers to the skirt length.

Peasant skirt is the style, usually tiered.

Maxi is the lenght. You can have short peasant skirts or maxi peasant skirts.

Hmm..it seems like for the upcoming F/W 05 collections, the maxi-skirt is taking a back-seat. One of the pratical reasons that I can think of is that maxi-skirts and boots are just hard to pull off. B)

The maxi-skirts that were showcased however, were remarkedly less-boho and more structured and neo-Victorian:

Mattew Williamson F/W 05:

JPG F/W 05:

More structure and victorian-goth and less volume as seen from Costume National RTW F/W 05:

and the use of heavy, luxurious fabrics (velvet!) and details for Fall:

I stole one from my mother. But I haven't wore it yet. I feel like a super hippie poser.

Everybody wears cheap ones at my high school, that's not original anymore ...

so it's only original if someone pays a lot of money for it?

They haven't caught on much in Montreal. I have a white one, a brown one and a green one.

They're really comfortable to wear around.

Can't wear them... they're always too long for me. :( and most of them are impossible to hem.

It would be easier to hem the top rather than the bottom. The bottom would be too difficult because of the gathered fabric.

okay, thos are all what i would call peasant skirts. but is the smart maxi skirt going to have a serious revival?

i read Bay Garnett in vogue extolling the virtues and have seen a couple of mad maxi dresses on the highs street. will it become a trend again?

I love long skirts. Always have. Sleek, dancer inspired jersey ones especially with simple black turtle necks or t -shirts. I have a long, wool Missoni skirt for winter (zig zag pattern) that I wear with long boots and a black sweater.
Long skirts have sort of modest, puritan sex appeal that I like.

i'm really starting to like maxi skirts, but i'm afraid they will make me look shorter (i'm only 5'5 or 5'6).
