^ yeah, Sesilee needs to go.

It seems that there were also some updates on the Icons list: Mariacarla finally debuted at 20, Natalia moved down to 4 and Daria moved up to 3.

And Guinevere was removed of course.

Honestly, isn't Guinevere working more than Linda nowadays? I guess Linda is more legendary.

well, linda has the l'oreal contract.......that that's HUGE!!!!

a long-term cosmetic contract is the grand dame of all contracts!!!

Sometimes these rankings make me want to punch myself, so I figured I'd post my thoughts on which girls should be higher, which girls should be lower and which girls should be out.

Girls that should be higher
  • Samantha Gradoville (#50) - I think she should be around #44, she had a great fashion week and steady editorial work.
  • Siri Tollerod (#43) - She had a Miu Miu campaign last season, a good runway season and has steady editorial work. Also, I think her longevity should count for something. I'd put her at #36 I think.
  • Patricia van der Vliet (#36) - I'm quite biased when it comes to her, but I think she at least deserves her old spot back (#29). She has tons of editorial work and good campaign work.
  • Frida Gustavsson (#35) - It's quite obvious why she should be higher; runway queen, appeared in Marc Jacobs mainline and perfume campaigns and US Vogue favorite. I'd put her at at least #21
  • Daphne Groeneveld (#30) - I know that she's brand new, but appearing on the cover of Vogue Paris with Tom Ford, appearing in both Miu Miu and Givenchy campaigns and a fantastic runway season is not something to sneeze at. I'd have debuted her at spot #27.
  • Karmen Pedaru (#18) -She has really stepped up her game in the past seasons, campaign favorite, editorial favorite and runway favorite. I'd put her at #15
  • Kasia Struss (#15) - Jil Sander and Miu Miu campaign, editorial favorite and runway favorite. I would put her at spot #13
  • Sigrid Agren (#14) - She just got moved up, but I would even put her higher. She had the most runway shows this season, has 2 Prada campaigns under her belt, Chanel fragrance, Alberta Ferretti, YSL Beauty, cK Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld and Chloe campaigns. Her editorial work could be better, but her campaigns really make up for that, and she got the Numéro November 2010 cover.I'd put her at #10
  • Magdalena Frackowiak (#13) - Runway staple and editorial queen. Campaign work could be better but she got Lanvin last season, a Vuitton campaign and a Givenchy fragrance ad, so I would put her at #11
The girls who should be lower
  • Dafne Cejas (#45) - Yeah, she has a Givenchy campaign under her belt, and a few good editorials, but her runway season completely sucked, so I think she should be on #47 or so. Her current spot seems a little too high.
  • Sophie Srej (#39)- She has the Daisy Marc Jacobs fragrance, but that's probably the biggest thing she's ever going to get. Her editorial work sucks, but she's still a Marsh favorite, although it seems that her runway work is slowing down a little bit as well. I'd put her at #45
  • Hannah Holman (#31) - Yes, she had a couple of great campaigns in the last couple of seasons, but she's too short to be a runway model and her editorial work has been slowing down a little as well. I'd put her at #40, I think.
  • Eliza Cummings (#24) - I still don't like her, but there's no denying that she's done very well for herself lately. Her runway work is so-so, but she had the Balenciaga campaign last season and she is a Meisel favorite. #24 is a little too high if you ask me, though, so I'd put her at #30
  • Crystal Renn (#19) - It's true that, as a plus size model, she should be higher than a regular model with her achievements. I think #19 is a little too high though, I'd put her at #28
  • Catherine McNeil (#13) - She had Givenchy last season, but as much as I hate to admit it, she's kind of fading. I'd still keep her in the top 50 though, probably on spot #26. I think we should keep in mind her past achievements as well.
  • Lindsey Wixson (#12) - She really blossomed the past year, but I feel #12 is a little too high for her. I would probably put her at #18 or so.

And last but not least, the girls who should be out
  • Barbara Palvin (#48)- As much as I love her, what significant work has she done lately? A few good editorials just aren't enough for me. She has no campaigns under her belt and had a bad runway season.
  • Kamila Filipcikova (#46) - I love Kamila, but she has nothing going on for her. She has no campaign work, barely any editorial work and a so-so runway season.
  • Rianne Ten Haken (#38) - Barely any editorial work, almost no runway work and no campaign work. I don't see why she should be on the list.
  • Viktoriya Sasonkina (#32) - There's no denying that she did great in the past, but really, she had a disaster of a runway season, she barely has any editorial work and no campaign work anymore. Ymre did great in the past as well, but is she on the list? No.
  • Rose Cordero (#28) - Getting the cover of Vogue Paris as a black model certainly is a big feat, but not enough to be so high on the rankings. She barely has any editorial or runway work, and no campaign work.
  • Sessilee Lopez (#15) - Like most of you, I think Sessilee should be out. I think this speaks for itself. Campaigns for Frankie Morello and editorials in Allure magazine don't earn you a place in the top 50.
  • Jamie Bochert (#11) - Same story as Viktoriya, did great in the past but has now totally faded.
There are a few other changes I would make as well, but they're not really worth mentioning. Also, I would add Caroline Brasch Nielsen to the list.

^I agree with a lot that you said. Especially about Barbara Palvin, Rianne, Frida, Magdalena (I'd put her in the top 10 actually) and Sessilee, of course.

And I'd also add Ashley Smith to the top 50 because she has so many amazing editorials and covers at the moment that she definitely deserves to be on the list much more than girls like Eliza C. and Ruby Aldridge (She's one of ma favorite models, but she's only had 2 editorials in the past 6 months and two smaller campaigns, so #40 is definitely too high atm)

As much as I like her I agree with u about Crystal, however I desagree about Lindsey... this year her runways season were incredible, and her editorial work ... please, iD cover, Gallinao campaign, etc.

^Yes, I agree, Lindsey has been doing absolutely great, but I feel that she's not on the same level as Magdalena, Kasia, Sigrid, Karmen and some other girls who are ranked lower than her just yet.

Hmm.. I still think 12 is a great and well deserved position for her right now. -_-

I think Lindsey's doing great, but should be a bit lower nonetheless. Her portfolio's impressive, but I wouldn't quite say #12. I'd say around 15.

I also agree that Frida and Karmen should be a bit higher.

(sorry if the update has any mistakes... u all know that mdc always writes some changes wrongly)

does anyone else feel that chanel iman should not be ranked in the top 20?

Joan Smalls is set to rise even further with Estee Lauder/Gap
so I think they should take this opportunity to remove Sessilee and downsize Chanel, it would look farce to have them all so high

Everybody wants a piece of Joan!

^Agreed. I remember complaining Joan was too high a few months ago, but she should be even higher now in my opinion.

Hmm... I never put much attention to this list (not only because I don't really agree with it most of the time, but more because I'm not a fan of such listings anyway) but it really baffles me that Cat McNeil is still ranked higher than, say Tati for instance. Same for Sessilee. And even though I'm not her biggest fan I really wouldn't put Alessandra anywhere lower than 15. I mean, she's working for quite a long time now and even if it's mostly VS - she seems in great demand (to me). Especially with her recent high fashion success!

^ I agree 100% with Yendor and nijuyanah ... I wish models.com team could read your suggestions.

Thank you!! I didn't want to say this and have it come off as "annoying fan blindly supporting his favorite model," but honestly she's been doing SO much fashion work it's crazy how slowly her climb on the top 50 has been.

I think the issue is who she's collaborating with. For example, Ale does a lot more work than Crystal Renn, but being a Carine-favorite out weighs being a Katie Grand/Anna dello Russo-favorite as far as top 50 goes. I really think the only thing missing from Ale's work is an only-girl blue chip editorial (Vogue Paris, American, Italia), a couture show, and an only-girl (or 2 girl) blue chip campaign.

I completely agree with what most of you are saying. Sometimes I feel as if the rankings value the past campaigns of models more than the campaigns that they hold for the current season. Catherine McNeil is an incredible model but Tati had Valentino this season so surely she should be higher.

Chanel might have a campaign for SS11 which could have changed her position but I think that she might be a little over valued. Surely, if she's earning from VS she should be a Money Girl rather than a Top 50? Happy about Lindsey Wixson, Magdalena Frackowiak and Crystal Renn going up! I feel as if Frida G should be a bit higher (seeing has she has Lanvin and Marc Jacobs) and Lily D a bit lower. Even though I love her, she hasn't got that many campaigns of late.

The fact that Valerija Kelava is at number 20 is scandalous. For the FW10 season she got Prada, Versace, Burberry Blue, Balenciaga and Cerruti.

Liu is at 10 and Constance is at 8, so logically Joan should move up to the Top 10 sooner or later, not solely based on Estee Lauder, but also based on her show season and Gucci. She is very comparable to Liu, although Constance has become one of the top cover models in past year or so, in fact now that I think about it, Constance could reasonably be bumped up two or three notches (she's roughly on the same level as Abbey).

As a print model, Sessilee is all kinds of awesome and it breaks my heart that she does not get more campaign and high profile editorial work, but her position is way too high and I am afraid that it may start too reflect badly on her and for that reason her ranking needs to be lowered. If she needs to be on the list for political reasons, and I am not sure if on the merits she deserves to be totally off the list, she should at least be buried in the 30s and 40s.

I do think Cat should be lower than 15, especially as she isn't really working anymore but I don't think Tati should be higher than her. If people are forgetting last season Cat got Givenchy, GAP, Saks and Carolina Herrera fragrance campaigns. I think that along with her past achievements deserves her a higher placing than Tati who will probably have disappeared this time next year.

I don't think Valerija should be higher. As much as I do love her, I don't think she's going to be around for much longer. She had a great campaign season, but I don't think she's getting any for S/S 11 is she? It's probably too early to tell though.
