Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex

Yikes, that is not a good look for her first official engagement as Duchess. And while of course she didn't go out and buy the stockings herself, it's not like getting someone to buy you a shade that matches your complexion is an impossible feat. She has the means to get more than one shade.

But I guess we shouldn't be that harsh on her because she has a lot to learn and at least she is following royal etiquette. Beginnings are hard for everyone.

True! I agree that the dress fits way too slovenly on her and don't think the colour is all that flattering.

Slovenly?! Slovenly is People of Walmart. This is off-the-rack fit vs. couture.

It looks like a deliberate attempt to match the hose to the dress rather than the skin. I thought matching to skin was so 1982 ...

So much else has been thrown out, throw out the pantyhose too  It's time.

That dress is awful, but I love the hat & the low bun. Audrey Hepburn vibes.

Agree, the low bun would have been lovely for her wedding.

Also agree with fashionista-ta, the matching stockings are obviously deliberate, I think it's a classy polished look for the event.

Really not fashion related, but I figured that perhaps some of you would be interested in knowing that Meghan now has her own coat of arms.

The figures on either side of the shield, known as supporters, are a songbird and a golden lion wearing a crown.

"It is customary for Supporters of the shield to be assigned to Members of the Royal Family, and for wives of Members of the Royal Family to have one of their husband's Supporters and one relating to themselves," Kensington Palace said in a statement. "The Supporter relating to The Duchess of Sussex is a songbird with wings elevated as if flying and an open beak, which with the quill represents the power of communication."

The duchess worked closely with the College of Arms to design the coat of arms to be both "personal and representative."
"The Duchess of Sussex took a great interest in the design. Good heraldic design is nearly always simple and the Arms of The Duchess of Sussex stand well beside the historic beauty of the quartered British Royal Arms," Thomas Woodcock, Garter King of Arms, said.

I think on it's own, this is one of her best looks yet. The hair is great, and finally a dress that fits her!

However, in the group shots on the balcony she looked a bit out of place having exposed shoulders next to everyone in military uniform and sleeves. Very pretty, but I might have saved it for a different occasion just to fit the more formal daytime occasion.

Poor Princess Eugenie, I think? She looks ready to play a grumpy Queen of Hearts ...

I like the relaxed off the shoulders look. To me, everyone else looks a little uptight ...

Queen Elizabeth II and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex arrive for their visit to the Storyhouse on June 14, 2018 in Chester, England. Meghan Markle married Prince Harry last month to become The Duchess of Sussex and this is her first engagement with the Queen. During the visit the pair will open a road bridge in Widnes and visit The Storyhouse and Town Hall in Chester.

She's not wearing the right colour tights. Other than that everything looks great in the shots above. Also glad to see the shoulders covered up. She looked far too casual next to everyone else.

There's no pleasing some people ;) To my eye, her legs are an exact match to her arms. What would you like her to match--her hair? ;) (Her legs also look much better than Queenie's, but I understand why.)

I think the issue is more that her stockings are much more matt than her skin. That affects how you perceive color.

She needs to stop being so glowy:judge::lol:

I agree. It's not like she wants to be wearing pantyhose, it's not like they are easy to match to any skin tone.

She looks classy, love the dress.

i love the latest dress! she looks lovely.

[she's a breath of fresh air to an outdated tradition (*ducks and runs for cover* - please don't expel me; i'll be good!)]

She looked great & her look was perfectly appropriate for the event. I didn't even notice she was wearing tights.

It's funny how designers refused to dress her before she met Harry because she wasn't a big enough star, and now she's one of the most famous women in the world and is getting custom Givenchy (and any brand she wants, really) dresses.

Sadly not too crazy about this one... Maybe it'd been a bit better if the dress hadn't been that loose.

Yikes. After one of her better looks so far, this is one of her worst ever. She's drowning in the dress, it's not very pretty to begin with, and the hat looks like an awkward afterthought. Oh well, hopefully next time will be better!

No no no ... fitted is definitely the right choice for her. Especially with the hat, the loose fit doesn't work. This would be great on Lauren Hutton ... (without the hat).
