I like the coat, but don't like how she flipped the collar up since the part underneath is just felt lining and looked a little cheap. If it had some cooler detail (or was designed to have the collar up), I would have liked it. It was cute that she and Kate basically matched shoes, all four of them seem to be getting along well.

^The coat was indeed designed with the collar up (at least the model wears it so on the website) and I agree, somehow it doesn't seem like it's meant to be worn that way.
I think it's my least favorite out of her recent outfits, although it's still a nice outfit and she looks beautiful.

I would love it if we (the general we) could post in this thread and talk about Meghan's style without constantly comparing her to Kate. I happen to like them both and find them both beautiful but I never want to come in here when it's just all about how much cooler/younger/sexier Meghan is than Kate. They are different women. Kate has had two (nearly three) children, maybe that ages someone. This is not directed at any poster in particular, I just think it would be more fun in here if we could relax with the comparisons.

Anyway, they both have pretty and shiny hair

I second that! They are individually beautiful with their own style and THAT should be celebrated.:flower::heart:^_^

There are articles calling her out for forgetting to cut the tailor's tack on her coat, lol. I guess people don't miss much these days. Personally I don't think she has great style. Looking back on how she dressed before she met Prince Harry, I feel like her style was very basic - "trendy" perhaps. I suppose it will be improving now that she has a stylist etc. but she isn't a woman who naturally radiates style like Kate Moss, Brigitte Bardot, or Audrey Hepburn. I feel like her good outfits now are a product of having a stylist on hand. She is a fashion chameleon - she gravitates to wearing whatever fits in with her current situation, from Hollywood trendy to London polished, but isn't able to put her own mark on it. Sure, the outfits she wears will sell out fast, but I doubt we will be getting many truly groundbreaking style moments from her as she seems like more of a trend follower than a setter. Plus she will have to dress more conservatively in her new role anyways. And that's fine - not everyone can be naturally chic. And she looks great in whatever she wears, generally.

Although - her Ralph and Russo engagement dress was terrible IMO!!! So expensive and it still didn't even look good. The dress in photos will look silly a decade from now (I think it looks bad even now) and she could have done much better even within the brand. The mesh and embellishments were tacky and I'm sorry if I sound like an old geezer but not at all appropriate for a royal engagement photo. Even if she was set on doing mesh and embellishments, she could have chose something just less.... tacky and trendy. Ralph and Russo does have some stunning gowns and I just don't know why she went with that one.

I tend to agree, I think her style as an actress was quite trendy (for better or worse), but am hoping now that she will have royal stylists that she will stick with a more classic and better tailored look. Not everyone needs to be a fashionista. I agree about the Ralph & Russo engagement dress, that was her only real misstep so far in my opinion. I've seen rumors about R&R making her wedding gown too, but don't know how true those are.

fashion follower, not a leader, that makes sense. I hope that from now on she just learns to relax about it a bit and wear what she likes. obviously, she has to be appropriate and follow protocol, but I find that if we wear what we like and enjoy wearing it, for the most part everything else falls into place.

I would agree that the editor of the Tig definitely wore the trends: see all those pics of her wearing the Panama hat. Now don't get me wrong. I love Panama hats. They're great. Nothing against the Panama hat. Nothing. But let's face it, they are also extremely trendy and have been for a long time.

Here I thought a Panama hat was classic ... thus having a name everyone knows, going back generations.

Saying she's no Brigitte or Audrey seems like a bit much to me. You're talking about style icons that occur a few times in a century. No, she's not a fashion icon, and she doesn't need to be. Her style is very nice.

I will say her head is screwed on a lot better than Brigitte's.

I agree about the engagement portrait dress--not the best choice. On the bright side, she clearly wore what she really wanted to wear, and to heck with what everyone thinks. More people should do that.

I think you misunderstood me. I actually said in my post “that's fine - not everyone can be naturally chic. And she looks great in whatever she wears, generally.” I never said she needed to be a Brigitte or an Audrey, I was just making an observation.

I will say though that if the R&R dress is a true indicator of her “style”, since she likely handpicked it herself, then I hope she consults her stylist for future black tie events lol.

To be honest, I don’t agree that she should dress as she likes without caring for what people think. After all, the British public will soon be paying her bills with their taxes. Since they will be her income source (and it’s likely Prince Harry is funding part of her current lifestyle now - I doubt she was the one paying the photographer for their engagement shoot or for the vacation to Monaco), she should absolutely take into account their opinions and feelings even if it is about something as seemingly arbitrary as her wardrobe - she will still be spending an awful lot of money on clothes, even if some are lent/borrowed.

As a member of the Royal Family, Meghan is meant to represent the country and its people. I’m sure the engagement dress was gifted or lent to her for publicity, but whether she/Prince Harry paid for it or not the gesture itself seemed lavish, overly extravagant and thoughtless.

And I am absolutely not trying to say that Meghan should be paying for herself or that it’s wrong for Harry to be funding her lifestyle - they’re about to be married! I’m just saying that since Harry’s income is generated by British taxpayers, and because Harry and Meghan are going to represent said taxpayers, they need to take into account what the public thinks.

A representative from Ralph & Russo said the dress was bought, full price. Didn't disclose who bought it though. :flower:

My theory is that Harry bought it, from his private money, as an investment. Some day it could worth even more money and is a potential to raise money for one of their charities. Maybe Sentebale.

Personal opinion: Not one of Meg's best appearances. Aside from the mismatched shoes, she just seemed distracted and not present. A little less gazing wondrously at her man and a little more attention and focus on the people she was meeting would have been better, IMO! Just my thoughts and observation, please don't attack me for it!
