[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, serif][SIZE=-1] In the ’80s, if you wanted some action (and you weren’t living in a dark hole of teased hair and Oingo Boingo tapes), you wore a Members Only jacket.
Ready to get it on again (we mean the jacket)? The iconic brand is back in full force, courtesy of Kelli Delaney (she helped start a little magazine called Us Weekly) — who added tube, shift, and racer-back dresses; lambskin vests; and trenches to the collection of bombers (black, white, cognac, chocolate, hot-to-trot metallic gold leather).
They’ve got the same elasticized waist, same zip-up front, same closure at the neck, and same classic tagline: “When you put it on something happens.” But, unfortunately, they do not have the same reasonable price tag (these new ones ring in around $950). Which may deflate your hopes of becoming a member.
To say nothing of your member itself.

Available at Henri Bendel, 712 Fifth Avenue, at 56th Street (212-247-1100).

yeah- to be completely honest...
the price is BEYOND stupid...

even if someone gave it to me for free...
i still would not wear it...
:yuk:

^it will work very good in rock scene, imo....

mine is beige (not this label, though...), and i bought it in last year of highschool because saw it on an older person.... and he was listening to brit pop......

but the price???? it's insane.... even the vintage one are much more cheap....
i bought mine like 10€ in a second hand shop....

i detest those hideous jackets! a 950...my god is that the most grotesque pricing.

barf  But you know people will be all over it.

How many silly fashion whores does it take to sell out of Members Only jackets?

The world may never know.

This is when it becomes clear that the mid-80s retro trend has gone too far.

Sadly, I see these becoming quite popular - they seem so American Apparel-ish and the hefty, absurd price tag will only add to the hysteria...

I can totally see Lohan in the gold jckt. above...:sick:

I love those jackets
I've been wearing mine for ages!!!!

But price is crazy, lol
They fit really nice tho, worth to find right size in secondhand shops

I know these jackets because of the countless films I've seen in which they make fun of the person wearing them.

But I don't get their appeal. Why were these ever in demand? Did the name play a role? And was this just an American thing?

DosViolines - they were quite popular in America during the 80s, if I remember correctly... a 'status symbol' apparently and yes, the name played a huge role...

HUGE in the mid 80's...even then they were on the more expensive side...
maybe aroud $80 (yes that was expensive for a teen at that time)
and there were TONS of knock offs...
but only big losers wore the knockoffs...

it was either a REAL members only or nothing...
but the people who tended to wear them were the biggest a**holes you can imagine...

*those kids in high school who walk around like they own the school...

**you know....
the ones whose best days were 20 years ago and who miss high school desperately because now they have 2-3 kids, a mortgage and are in a loveless marriage, plus they have lost most of their hair and no one cares if they were on the HS tennis or football team..

:innocent:

yeah- those kids..:p

:yuk:

that pretty much sums it up...

who are they kidding with that ridiculous price point?

it's like they are trying to trick people into thinking it's something special because it's so expensive... :innocent:

Sad. To finally relaunch something that is at the end of a 5-7 yr old trend is just badly behind the times. Especially when one still sees them for next to nothing on racks in many thrift stores. Any hipster that had to have one bought theirs a long time ago...
Pointless.

yeah---def too late as well...
although...

we dont' seem to be moving past the 80's in terms of trends to recycle...

i mean...MJ tried to recycle grunge...
but that only lasted one season...:ermm:
and there really wasn't much else in the 90's to recycle....
we may be stuck in the 80's ...forever...
:ninja:...

somebody help us!!!...
:o...

Figures it can't even be the chic Robert Palmer/American Psycho 80's, it's gotta be the MTV 80's.

I wasn't even old enough to appreciate it the first time around, but I'm sick to death of it already.

Oh well, it'll look sensational with those new MC hammer Dior homme pants I'll be snapping up. Cue the Joan Jett soundtrack now..... :mowhawk:
