Men's Denim

evisu used to make quality jeans. now, the quality has declined greatly... and now rappers where them. stay away. unless of course you can get a hold of vintage evisus.... but the logo still associates you with all the people that wear them now.

I thought that either the quality must have declined or their must be a whole different Japanese line.

I'd never pay $450 for these..not even if the quality was the best in the universe.

BTW, have any of you had jeans taken in? Is it doable, and do the jeans look good after such alteration? I'm looking at a couple of real collector's items, but they look a tad too big :shifty:

well they used to produce their jeans in japan.. they did up until recently... now they're doing it in hong kong and some other places.

but even the later japanese stuff was declining in quality.

I had a pair of dior jeans taken in at the waist and through hip and a bit at the leg (at both sides). Came out great, no detail lost either.

which I didn't pay nearly full retail price for by the way! The alteration wasn't very expensive either, 25ish as I recall.

Thanks, disstop.

Riccardo, two pairs of Diesel jeans I've had were the worst fitting jeans I've ever put on my body. I don't even know why I bothered. That was years ago. But even if they fit you well I wouldn't pay such prices for jeans.

you could get much nicer jeans at that price too, not to mention the ones you showed have strange washes.

Really don't like the first pair, and they're too expensive for Diesel jeans.

Don't like the second pair either.

I can't see the third pair.

^Basically, they're all awful. I've had a pair of Diesel jeans as well - they fit awfully, are EXTREMELY low quality, and I paid $143 for them when I could have gotten something MUCH better.

I suggest you try A.P.C or Helmut Lang :flower:

EVISU JAPAN and its sister label YAMANE DELUXE are still great labels .

BTW , I have a pair of jeans made by the ex-designer for EVISU ITALIA -

GAIJIN JEANS , made by PAUL Spa ITALIA .

Great design and super quality .

( but NOT as good as Marithe et Francois Girbaud , :innocent: ) .

Same. I only paid like $30 for my pairs, though.

A.P.C. jeans

A couple posters here have been endorsing apc jeans. I strongly second that. My favourite pair of jeans is a 'tight fit' faded pair of A.P.C. The cut is very close to dior homme 21cm jeans, maybe slighly narrower in the leg (the cuff openings on mine are 19 3/4 cm). The wash is neutral, light enough to work well with dark top, and the fading is even and unpretentious. For the person asking about sizing, this particular pair fit small. The size 33 'tight fit' fits me exactly like the size 32 21cm hem in this seasons dior orange overdyed, but easier to wear because the denim is softer and not quite as thick. They ride low and have the same flat, tight yet baggy seat effect that I like in the dior jeans and that I haven't found in any other jeans.

QUESTION: can someone please tell me what's up with the A.P.C. raw demin? I ordered a pair in the same 'tight fit' style in the same size as fits me in that style, but they're very baggy. I have heard that you're supposed to wash them and throw them in the dryer so they shrink down to the proper size. Can anyone confirm this? It occurs to me that maybe they are supposed to fit a little looser through the hip and leg given the stiffness of the fabric. Any enlightenment?

I've got 4 pairs of Diesels that I've had for quite 5-6 years. Still a great fit, still feel great. I bought a pair last year that are excellent as well. They also do a "denim gallery" series made with some awfully nice japanese denim.

What is "low quality" denim, anyway? I mean, you can go get Wranglers from Target for 40 bucks and wear them day in and day out for the next 20 years, or you can do the same with jeans from APC, Helmut Lang, Dior, or whatever. Sure, there is _some_ variation in quality, but the simple fact is that the difference between your stock Wrangler or Lee jeans and basic Dior Homme jeans doesn't equate to the price difference. You are paying for the label, the exclusivity, the cut, and maybe some qualitative improvement in fabric that only a textile freak would notice, but you aren't really getting "better" denim. It's all cotton!

I'm guilty as charged when it comes to buying premium denim, and I feel like a bit of a fool for it, especially knowing that the differences are pretty goddamn minor.

To me, the look and feel is cheap in comparison. Of course it's not a HUMONGOUS difference, but there is a difference.

Are Wrangler jeans really $40 at Target now? I remember when I was in middle school or high school, they were less than $20.

Totally agree. In fact you pay for destruction sometimes with designer jeans. Thinking of the weathered helmut lang from a couple seasons back with all the fraying at knees, seat etc which would be through after a month of wear. No, the quality of the denim is pretty much the same between low and high end jeans. Dior jeans, especially from Luster, have some very complex treatments which anyone would notice, but are they worth it considering you can pick up 4 pair of apc for the same price or wranglers to take you to the grave?
