about your second point.........generally when gay men try to be all 'masculine' they tend to look even more gay than they would normally

seriously.......you can spot these guys from a million miles away and they arent atractive to anyone.....who are they trying to kid
they attract themselves...it's sort of a circular thing hyper-masculine gay men attract other hyper-masculine gay men...just like trendy stylemongers attract other stylemongers...gay men rarely date outside of their caste...just like in the straight world. [/b][/quote]
totally agreed!

european playboy

Hey!...actually, wait a second....
no offense but most european playboys would be mistaken for gay in middle america...the two looks are VERY similar.

and plus european men, unlike american men, don't have that whole stygma of being afraid to look sexy.

thats why i love will and grace when they make fun of them

like in that gay-rehab episode jack is like 'dude im not gay...im here to watch the football and drink some beer'

I loved the episode of 'Little Britain' when another gay man arrived in town and Gary, previously the only gay man in town, was totally pissed off because he thought that another gay would steal his style...definite metro...

Grrrooovy, baby!

What is a European Playboy? Does anyone have a definition?
anyone who has a private income usually titled who travels around to the various ports of call enjoying the jetset life. most italian, french, and spanish royals generally fit this bill, but also their non-titled friends.

i think of Dodi Al Fayed when I think of euro playboy....

Metro's are just guys, who like to do something about their outer appearence (which is very often stated as gay) and yet prefer the female sex. Isn't it?
But I think it's crazy to say that someone is gay, only cuz he's interested into make-up... what do you think?
@Acid: Where's your avatar from? It's hauntingly cool...

Acid's description of a metrosexual actually sounds like one of my exes. I have no problem with guys taking care of their appearances, but it's when they're insecure about it that it bothers me. For example my ex used to wear concealer and seemed to always be primping in the mirror (one of my guy friends actually saw him checking himself out in the men's room), but he'd be really insecure about expressing his feelings or doing anything cultural. I mean, he wouldn't even want to see a movie that was more intelligent than american pie because he thought it was a chick flick and was scared that his friends would call him gay. What you're interested in shouldn't have anything to do with sexuality or gender. I think it's hilarious when guys prentend that they're interested in sports but you know that they would never watch a game on their own.

Now I'm with a guy who doesn't pay attention to these kind of gender stereotypes and you know what, it's actually refreshing that I can be myself around him because of it. He will sometimes read the fashion spot forums with me and take me shopping AND we play video games together as well as other typical "guy" stuff. I don't see how someone could question a guy's sexuality when he is having regular SEX with a WOMAN. Has anyone ever noticed that the kind of guys that call others gay for these kind of reasons are almost always single. :innocent:

I know posting this is a bit late.

I'm a straight guy. I take care of myself, I even have a lot of products (not make-up).

I constantly get mistaken for being gay, soley on the way I look.

I mean, I dont act camp in any way, I dont walk or talk in any particular way or anything like that. (Totally stereotypical I know)

I recently had my hair cut in a really contemporary way and people say that I look gay cause of that. How a haircut can make you look gay I dont know?

It's kind of distressing that we are judged on just the way we look.

I can kinda undertsand why some people would think that, cause I do have gay friends, but what should that matter?

selfridges worker.......i absolutely hear you. I myself would have probhably associated somebody who works at selfridges with being gay (sheerly because MANY are, especially compared with 'normal' shops)

there is nothing wrong with being mistaken for gay, some people take it as a compliment. the sweedish footballer freddie ljungberg actually told me he thinks its cool when people say he's gay.

gay men have always been at the cutting edge of fashion which is why we associate well dressed/groomed men as less 'hetro'

by the way Street_a_Licious my avatar is from a 90's Kylie minogue song...they are avalible at the multimedia section of KylieFever.com

 so true

I think it's a jealousy issue. At my university where there are a lot more guys than girls it's always the well dressed guy with tons of attractive female friends who gets called gay.

I dont take being called gay as a bad thing. I didnt mean to come across like that.
LISTEN UP KIDDIO !!!

Just ' BE YOURSELF ' and BUGGER what others might say . As ACID implies they're only jealous . STYLE is personal , and if you work at SELFRIDGES , ' My word ' will you have the chance to look stylish , AND ON DISCOUNT , at that !!!

Are you at the new Birmingham branch ? Your place of work is a cutting edge style statement in its own right .

regards KIT :flower:
