"All you writers in the room need to come up with a new word. 'Pre' [as in pre-fall] is disgusting," Michael Kors announced at the beginning of a showroom presentation of his new collection today. As quick with crisp, neat basics as he is with quips, the designer turned out a sharply graphic, city-sleek lineup in a strong palette of white, black, red, and electric blue. For day, there was a "Faye Dunaway in Network" black leather shirtdress and a black shift with subtle blue trim at the shoulders and waistline. The latter was "for the woman who swears she's gonna wear color" but has a closet full of black.

On the more casual side: tapered and cropped pants worn with easy ribbed sweaters "to collect in every color" and striped T-shirts in the finest cashmere. Kors didn't offer a lot of evening options, but he was certain a red chiffon jersey number gathered at the bodice with a contrasting leather harness would be big in Hollywood: "It didn't walk down a runway, so it's not overexposed." On the accessories front, he showed "front-row boots" in knee-high print palomino ponyskin, harness bags that can be worn three ways "for everyone who's dividends didn't come through," and "Anne Slater sunglasses" with blue lenses. About the only thing he didn't deliver: a new name for this awkwardly titled season.

To be honest I think I have to take the collection piece by piece. For example although I love the black and white print, something doesn't sit right with me with those pieces. Also the two last dresses come off as a little... cheap to me.

I mean I do love some pieces but I don't think it's enough to make me love the collection as a whole.

Are we sure this is a PreFall collection?
Looks very summery and fresh:stripes, cut outs, bright colors...me no likey

Some of it is okay....but i'm really not feeling this direction that MK has been going in lately. Some of it is very oversized and dull looking, kinda like his latest RTW collections.

I want the effortlessly sexy designs by Kors to make a comeback!

Minimal verging on basic, lacking the clever details that sells Michael Kors to me, but some beautiful tailoring and the metallic black leather pieces are very desireable.

As a woman under 5'5 in height, I couldn't pull off many of these looks.

^Totally!
Some Prada here, some minimalism there, i don't know, i've never liked MK.

maybe it's the presentation, but i'm not 100% sold on this

i wonder how Carmen Kass will look like in those clothes in the Pre-Fall campaign (you KNOW it's gonna be her and Noah again )

There are more interesting way to make graphic colours and solids. But I love that jersey dress with the blue and black stripes.

I personally like it. It's very refined and minimal while having that "punch" with the use of the color blocking. My must haves from this collection are the opening look on Hanne and the second to last gown on Olga with that gorgeous usage of leather.

I am so thrown off that I cannot even properly assess the clothes - I click on a link expecting to see autumnal stuff and am greeted by clothes that look like they belong at a New England country club's Fourth of July event. Then I scroll down and eventually get to the more seasonally appropriate looks but by then I am thrown off by the model styling. I don't get the styling for the resort and pre-fall collections and Kors has been doing this for a few seasons now - for the Spring and Fall runway shows he goes for glamor and aspiration, but then for the in-between collections we get children dressing up in their grandparents' clothes. Are you effin' kidding me, the second to the last dress is dragging on the ground!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [Takes a break to calm down]

<3 the leather looks, the coats in the Fourth of July segment of the collection are kinda cool too, as well as the print boots. However, there is something off about the stiffness of some of the dresses and it takes the collection in an unpolished and discount retailer direction. Overall this is by far not the best thing that I've seen from a major fashion designer, nevertheless in my estimation there are quite a few items that the buyers are going to be placing orders for, and on that basis it is a successful collection.

P.S.
I know that is has been discussed elsewhere, but I wonder if the inclusion of the "Fourth of July" looks in the collection is because these clothes are actually intended to be sold in the spring and summer and not the fall, and that showing spring clothes in September and Fall clothes in February has become anachronistic blah, blah, blah. I have even wondered if perhaps the S/S flavored stuff is Kors taking a second swing at getting orders for the spring and summer, and if it is that is a smart move on his part, or even if these clothes were designed back with the other items in the Spring collection but, because while sellable they may have been too boring / prosaic for the higher profile and glitzier runway show.

^^ as per Kors himself Pre-Fall goes on sale form May until... I think he said August. And it's clothes for all year... so to him, nothing is anachronistic for this collection.

I like it (Mixing of Prada and Stella McCartney

Exactly, I had the same thought!
And those shoes look a little bit Balenciaga too... maybe he is trying to unite all the features of the best collections of spring...
