Michelangelo di Battista - Photographer

I think the collaborations between Alison Edmond and Michelangelo di Battista are really successful.. so beautiful

funny---
i think they are some of his weakest work to date...
but it's a super commercial second tier mag...so i guess he can't really do anything too strong...

I guess I see your point...
The work in those editorials really isn't anything groundbreaking..
but I do think that the photos have a certain appeal and that they are beautiful...
despite the weird lightning effects in the first editorial :innocent::lol:

It makes sense that work for Bazaar would be very commercially driven and not necessarily focused on a more artistic vision..
especially since the magazine had to change ther name from Harper's & Queen to Harper's Bazaar in the last year...

I think I would actually consider this the weakest of his work :yuk:

i totally adore the thread, though it's kind of confusing to see how di Battista's work varies from time to time. there are extremely bourdin-esque works with oversized shadows and dazzling bold colours, there are quirky splashes of technicolor, almost graphic works with hyper-styling. and there are also these soft images with evening-cum-midnight lighting, almost party-ing feel. it's great to see a photographer, who tries to reconfigure his vision all the time. maybe sometimes it gets more or less successful, still this is the professional to watch for, because you never know when his Next Big Thing will appear.
i trully hope we'll be getting more of Micelangelo in recent future.

^^i think the changes that we see also have to do with which brands he is portraying and which magazine's he is shooting for..

the level of creative freedom that he is allowed varies with each thing that he does and we can't forget that in the end he is being paid to give his clients what they want ^_^

^^ absolutely true and that's just what i was thinking of.

but there are photographers who are payed by brands for just being themselves. terry richardson, inez&vinoodh, juergen teller just to name few. their shoots are more about being recognized and identified with the particular photographer rather than some actual concept. therefore it happens that different jobs for different clients look oddly the same. which is not that bad if you ARE inez&vinoodh

i believe it all depends...

yes it definitely depends..
the photographers you mentioned are on sort of a different level i think where they are getting hired specifically to meld their sort of signature artistic vision with the brand or magazine..

i'm sure they are much more expensive than michelangelo di battista and have to compromise a lot less than he does..
