VOGUE.COM was more than a little surprised to see Jil Sander absent from the official Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana schedule for the fast-approaching Milan Fashion Week. The reason? Plain old logistics. The only available slot sandwiched the label's show between fellow big hitters Fendi and Versace, meaning it would be near impossible for any of them to secure the models they wanted. Jil Sander, then, did the admirable thing and stepped out of the official line-up - opting instead to show off-schedule on the morning of Tuesday, September 25 - but not without reservations. "Jil Sander is concerned about this whole situation and feels that the Milan fashion calendar is shrinking every season and forcing important fashion labels into a tight four day schedule - originally spread over eight days," states a memo from the Jil Sander press office. "The house would appreciate discussing the schedule of the next seasons' calendar in a dialog between other fashion houses and the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, in order to give to every fashion house the chance to show its new collection under the most appropriate conditions."
