New arrivals to watch

Wednesday, April 28, 2004

It may seem like the fashion calendar gets put together just hours before curtain call, but the Milan men’s fashion week, more than two months away, is already in high gear. And while we’ll all be craning our necks to see what a non-Tom Gucci looks like, there are a few other noteworthy arrivals.

First is the return of Ozwald Boateng to Milan, after nearly five years of showing his expert Savile Row tailoring in Paris. Boateng dallied very briefly in the Milan market years ago, but some adverse planning (his show was slotted during a soccer cup championship and no one came, the story goes…) led to a quick relocation to Paris. Now that Boateng has been elected creative director for Givenchy’s menswear (since December 2003), he will have dual city responsibilities: his main label in Milano and his Givenchy menswear debut to follow in Paris.

Also new on the Milan catwalks this June: luxury-leisure label Brioni, which has previously showed its rich cashmeres and made-to-measure suits in the confines of a static presentation. This season, they plan on taking the activity up a notch with a full-scale fashion show.

Should be interesting to watch. Personally I don't think New York was the right place for Boateng. As far as Gucci goes.....I know plenty of people hate Tom, but to me his menswear was great. He always managed to make guys look cool and classy at the same time........can't wait to see what comes down that runway this season :innocent:

....why does the time between fashion seasons seem SOOOOOO long?

i really want to see what ozwald's going to do with givenchy...i hope he can put them on the fashion map.
