Model Minute: Ming Xi Credits Her Astrological Sign for Her Constantly Evolving Style

Ming Xi has had a career that most models would kill for. At 20 years old she became a favorite of Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci — walking exclusively for the Spring 2010 couture show. Xi quickly followed that up with a turn down the runway at Givenchy's Fall 2010 show — landing a spot in the ad campaign where she nearly locked lips with Mariacarla Boscono. Since then, it's been nothing but the top shows from New York to Paris, and bluechip campaigns and covers. That success undoubtledly has something to do with her striking good looks, but it's Xi's effervescent and charming personality that set her apart. Fresh off her post-fashion week Mexican vacation with an undeniable glow, Ming Xi stopped by the BAZAAR office and had us laughing throughout our chat.

Harper's BAZAAR: How would you describe your personal style?

Ming Xi: My personal style is kind of random, it's always changing — I'm a Pisces! Sometimes I like one particular style for a season and the next season I will dress totally different.

HB: What's your favorite piece in your closet right now?

MX: A striped outfit I made. I picked out the fabric and brought it to a tailor. Sometimes people think it's Marc Jacobs because of the stripes. There are some differences, like mine is a high-waisted mini skirt, Marc showed an A-line skirt that sits low on the hips. A high-waisted skirt makes your legs look longer!

HB: Who are you favorite designers to work with?

MX: There are a lot. They're all very talented and so different. To work with them and to know them is like reading many different books. I love Alber Elbaz from Lanvin, he's very funny. I was so excited to walk in Lanvin that after the show I wrote him a card. When I handed it to him he jokingly asked, "What's in that? Cash?" I also love Riccardo Tisci and Raf Simons.

HB: What are some of your favorite beauty products?

MX: I love the Fresh rose face masks, they're really hydrating.

HB:What's your go-to makeup look?

MX: I love to accentuate my eyes, so I'll wear eyeshadow and mascara. If I'm doing that then I like to sometimes put foundation on my lips to get a really nude/matte look. But once in a while I like to wear Nars lipstick.

HB: What's a trend you're looking forward to this season?

MX: I'm not really sure, I need to shop around and see more clothes. I think I am over the stripe trend now, except for my outfit I had made.

HB: What's your favorite city to shop?

MX: New York and Paris.

HB: What's your favorite place you've gone for work?

MX: The Virgin Islands. I did a shoot in St. Johns, and it was so pretty. I like to go to places where you can relax a little after you're done working.
