Minimizing Pores, questions and advice!

Your pores probably only look "large" because there is dirt in them.... a good astringent and exfoliating scrub should help.

Lots of members here say that there is no such thing as a pore minimizer.

I guess it's mostly that I have rough skin, but the pores do look bigger on the nose and on the sides of the nose. I use St Ives Apricot scrub but it doesn't seem to go deep enough to get rid of the dirt? I mean there are what looks like a buildup of something white in the pores, even after washing (on the sides of the nose, you can pull them off and they look like tiny hair). I used to think these were blackheads, but someone said they're not.
Astringent seems to really dry my skin or make it feel too tight. The only one I've used up to now is Neutrogena's astringent for blackheads.

--Thanks I'll check the other thread...

BHA (beta hydroxy acid) is good for pores since it's an antibacterial that goes into the pore to clean it out and prevent blackheads. Paula's Choice 2% or 1%, Vichy's Normaderm 4% (from canada), and Trish McEvoy's BHA pads are some good products that help with large pores. Depending on how sensitive your skin is, can determine which percentage works for you. A bha/aha (abh) cleanser is good also. Sally's Beauty Supply has their own abh line called beyond belief. This includes a foaming cleaner. I have big pores and although nothing will make them disappear, they aren't as noticeable when they're clean.

Nothing can permanently "shrink your pores" once they're larger and stretched.

I do,however, find mine to be about half the sizxe after having a Dermatologica facial,so I have one every 6 weeks. It really lasts, too.

(I wasn't expecting this at all,so I'm definitely not imagining it:lol: .)

I find that my pores look much smaller when I have used a Biore pore strip. I think it's because.. when there is a bunch of dirt and oil in there.. they won't close up even when you do use pore minimizing products.

And always remember that pores never shrink permanently:flower:

A good way to help cover them up while using make up.. is by getting a foundation primer.. such as Smashbox's silicon based foundation primer.

My skin is I guess the oily type, so it feels taught and quite dry after washing, but after a few hours it's a bit oily (just in the T zone), so what do you suggest would be the best percentage for BHA?
I've noticed there seem to be a lot of different facial products, like toners, exfoliants, cleansers, moisturizers, astringents... are these all necessary/useful??

im so sad, i dont know what happened, but i was washing my face today with sisleys everday exfoliater and then i was in the wahsrroom putting on cream and omgosho inoticed my pores on my cheeks are big!! not BIGBIG but more promimnent now =( and like i see small facial hair that pops out from the pore! ewwwww wel;l you cant see it, im just paranoid caus eim really strict with skin routines! and i dont know if its because im putting too much makeup on? like I put laura mercier foundation primer and then Prescritpives custom blend foudnation and this magic powder...and high beam from benefit....

Also i dont get pimples on my cheeks or the lower bottom of my lip and ive noticed that theres like holes in my skin! like deep small ones like a needle pricked into it! what cna i do now!??!?! IM ONLY 14 years old! idont want to have ugly disgusting skin!!! yet i use sisley, h20 , lancome! wWTF!!! =(

mademoiselle,at 14 your skin is still naturally almost perfect. You may be overcleansing/using too many products. Best to keep to a simple cleanse, tone and moisturise routine at your age.

And it cannot hurt to keep to less make-up:flower: .

hmm i thought pore strips were bad cos they actually widen your pores when you rip them off.....i dunno perhaps i heard wrong. :flower:

That can't be true, else I would have massive pock marks all over my face from spots that dried up and fell off (Sorry, it's gross, I know :( ). When that happened there was a big hole, but the next morning it would pretty much be gone completely.

^ I agree. It is possible because that's what happend to me. I had large pores and now they are much smaller and not noticeble at all.

besides if your pores once stretched stayed like that then when you steam your face to open your pores, they would stay open.. which as we know isn't true..lol

There is a difference between scars and widened pores. I am a doctor;I know;) .The very same way your pores don't remain open when you've steamed them open, stretched pores will not remain permanently tightened once you've used a product. :flower:.

That's why no-one has permanently solved the problem...now that would appear to make sense, wouldn't it?

thanks quirkycool! now i try not awshing my face harshly with my towel but softyl with really cold water , and cleanser and toner. i hope this helps!! ahh i wish in the future there would be soemthing that can pernameltny minimize our pores!!

QuirkyCool - So, what you meant to say is, pores can change size naturally, but there is no product that will keep them permanently stretched/tightened?

I wish my doctor knew things like this; I can never ask her questions about skin.

use clarins lotus oil every night
use only 2 -3 drops , no more than that or else will be bad for your skin

what does this lotus oil do? seems interesting.

i bought a bottle of witch hazel toner from the local chemist and it really tightens pores - i am rather pleased with it
