hmm i thought pore strips were bad cos they actually widen your pores when you rip them off.....i dunno perhaps i heard wrong. :flower:

Yup that's right. They actually rip off the outer layer of skin, which leaves you open to infection and they make your pores huge. I never had pore size problems untill I started to use those.

is that similar to Estee Lauder Idealist? cos I somehow have that at home and want to try it. When do you usually apply it? At night?

I guess it's mostly that I have rough skin, but the pores do look bigger on the nose and on the sides of the nose. I use St Ives Apricot scrub but it doesn't seem to go deep enough to get rid of the dirt? I mean there are what looks like a buildup of something white in the pores, even after washing (on the sides of the nose, you can pull them off and they look like tiny hair). I used to think these were blackheads, but someone said they're not.
Astringent seems to really dry my skin or make it feel too tight. The only one I've used up to now is Neutrogena's astringent for blackheads.

Hate to bump an old thread like this but I've recently been noticing the pores on my nose and.. being at guy, I never received instruction on what astringents even do! I've tried the Biore strips but as was stated earlier, they are ripping off my skin. What would you recommend for a 24-year old with large/clogged pores (with white, like gius) on my nose and bumps on my cheeks just under my eyes?

I would prefer if the items listed were commonly available, I've searched the 'household remedies' thread but it seems that everyone offers different advice! Hopefully I can track the stuff down in Indiana.

Tips on reducing large pores

  • Stop using harsh toners or astringents on the affected areas. Using these products may have a very temporary 'tightening' effect on pores, but it's extremely short-lived. In fact, harsh astringents actually encourage oil glands to over-produce oil, leading to an increase in the size of pores.
  • Avoid putting moisturiser on the area as the skin produces quite enough moisture and oil on its own and doesn't need more.

Large pores are simply a genetic problem, but you can temporarily reduce large pores by clearing away dirt and debris. Large pores are often an indication of oily skin. There are also home remedies to reduce large pores. Here it is.................

Use one after the other for cleansing and exfoliating the skin.
SUGAR SCRUB
Ingredients: 1 Tablesoon each of sugar, olive oil and honey.
Wet face, apply scrub by rubbing very gently in a circular motion. Remove with water with hands only.
EGG WHITE MASK
Mix 2 egg whites with a few drops of lemon juice. Apply on face and leave on for 5-7 minutes, then rinse with hands.
Note: As egg whites dry, they linghten the skin and pull debris out of pores. Lemon is a natural fruit acid which also helps to exfoliate.

Or you may try the following to treat large pores

1) Mix almond meal with enough water to make a paste. Apply to pores for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water, then apply withch hazel or a solution of apple cider vinegar and water.
2) Mix table salt and buttermilk into a paste, apply on enlarged pores and massage well. Rinse with warm water.
3) Add lemon juice and a little milk to oatmeal. Apply the paste and remove after 20 minutes with water. Do not use if there are eruptions.

GOOD LUCK

forget all that skin stuff. believe me. i tried everything to make my skin flawless and ''poreless''. I wash my face with NEutrogena for sensitive skin, peel, and then put on neutrogenas moisterizer cream SP 15.

but what REALLY helps to make your pores disappear and your skin shiny and fresh is when you eat healthy. eat ALOT of vegetables, SALAD (!), fruits, fresh orange juice, carrots..
since im doing that my skin is absolutely radiant!
and sleep alot. that works wonders as well.

argh, i need to start eating healthy..

has anyone else had luck with clinique or any other products?

merged, hopefully this will contain some more advice!

Estee Lauder Idealist. Works for me, but then, it's rather pricey.
Just regular washing seems to do the trick. Eating healthily and sleeping also helps.. :)

Eating healthy is the answer I think :innocent: too bad it's so damn tough!

I don't necessarily like Clinque's line, especially the pore minimizer bit. It just fills in your pores, though i knew it wasn't going to be a miracle cream I can fill it with goop for cheaper. I don't know what made me buy it, the sales lady had horrific skin.

^ Neither. I wasn't pleased with Clinique at all, was at first, but not anymore. Clarins is pretty good.

Dr. Brandt's microdermabrasion in a jar is great for removing blackheads. I used it and it's great. just don't scrub hard. I had to stop tho. aggravated my acne. anyway, i have the poreless night treatment cream...doesn't really work. it worked at first.then it stopped.

has anyone tried retinol? i hear it's great to minimize pore size and clear up acne. <after the peeling and drying phase of it>

Pore Minimizer

Can anyone recommend a good pore minimizer? Lately I've noticed mine are becoming more visible, especially when I wear makeup. I heard Clinique has a pretty good product. All your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks - Roni

Garnier PureA works for me! it contains salcylic acid to treat pimples, minimise pores and fade discolourations. You see results quite soon!
