Missoni F/W 11.12 Milan

There's only one possible response to the new Missoni girl and that is to fall instantly and unconditionally head over heels in love with her.

Nothing new in the silhouettes it is of course that early 90's boho festival grunge reinterpretation of the early to mid 70s still so beloved of NYC and which keeps on feeling right for now.

It's Missoni via Cavalli via Rodarte. But combining the conventions of grunge with a palette quite so peachy sweet is, I think, a first. And it works.

Like the Mulleavy and the Miucca princesses, the Missoni girl is far from one-dimensional - she's deep and complex and has a dark side and you feel your love for her is destined to be unrequited or doomed. An otherwordly siren who perhaps only exists in a dream.

I should like a Missoni girl for Christmas. I would sit her astride my Christmas tree and gaze at her beauty until well past twelfth night.

Gorgeous colours, terrible styling.

Get rid of those knitted flares (I would say burn them, but I'd probably actually cut them up and make them into make-up bags and coin purses, or something!), pair some of those sherbert rainbow coloured sweaters with some mid-tone leggings, in one of the colours from the sweater and you'd be onto a winner, IMO.

BTW, I obviously meant sherbet rainbow, not 'sherbert rainbow'.

Don't think I've attempted to write the word sherbet since I was about 8?! :D

Better than I expected. The colors are gorgeous, and the sweaters are to die for

I usually HATEEEEE Missoni. I feel they're repetitive and in dire need of branching out. But this collection actually surprised and impressed me. I enjoyed most of the collection, and I really liked the young, Boho vibe.

LOL @ the blanket coats

did Missoni and Prada have the same idea with the one-piece boots that look like they're two shoes?

SO ballsy to do a winter collection in entirely "spring colours". the fact that it is all shown with flat boots just nails it!

they have had serious momentum for the last couple of season!

I won't say Rodarte 'started' a softer palette for winter but the AW10/11'somnambulism' story for sure was in the same zone.

I think we're in a process of uncoupling seasonal associations both around palette and weight. Why are these 'spring' colours? Let's be free.

I mean, winter whites has a fairly accepted tradition. We don't have to be dark in winter. But the problem with white is one rather disappears in snow.

Imagine how beautiful this palette would look, how romantic, against a snowy backdrop/setting.

it's clear from the past three seasons that the missoni girl finds herself undergoing an identity crisis. thankfully, this season, the collection suffered most under the weight of heavy-handed styling than lack of missoni staples that will keep the girl satisfied until the next outing. while one understands houses must change or die, one would really wish they had the ability to actually develop some of the themes they dabble with in some of these more avant collections.

another thing that might rescue this collection comes not from this collection, but from miuccia prada: many of the pieces, from the palette to the use of python, would perfectly compliment much of that prada collection.
