Movie Awards Season 2012

I don't think Amour was all that.. I suppose it touches the age + love sacrifice fiber and the performances are certainly good but not really outstanding for me.. I don't know, if anything they should've nominated Riva's student in the movie (I don't know his name but he's WOW) and Isabelle, who's fantastic as always. Trintignant was good too. Of all people, I never would've thought the Oscars' need for validation would project itself through Riva..

I hope the best actress award goes to Naomi, it's about time, she's so good at selecting projects and excels in each and every one of them.

And No for best foreign film. Way above Amour and A Royal Affair imo (haven't seen the others).

The pre-Golden Globes announcement's got me utterly confused btw.

(does anyone know if Jonny Greenwood got nominated???)

Same here! It totally killed the anticipation.

And sadly no he didn't. :( While I found The Master to be utterly pretentious and pointless I found the cinematography and music downright beautiful.

I'm pleasantly surprised DeNiro and Weaver got noticed for Silver Linings. I thought the whole cast was wonderful but expected them to be overshadowed by casts from Les Mis and other films.

The supporting actor categories are so so safe.

I haven't seen Les Mis and don't plan to until it hits Netflix. I'm just not a musical lover. That said I feel like this movie is only being nominated because it's the only musical out this year. I thought it got really mixed reviews?

I get that Daniel Day Lewis is a great actor but I feel like giving him another award for Lincoln is rewarding him for doing what he always does which is rather good character impersonations. He needs to prove himself adept at a different genre like a comedy in my opinion to get further awards.

Random but can US Vogue continue to snub Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence for covers now that they are both two time nominees? How many less deserving people will appear on the cover before these two?

I didn't saw Lincoln, but without a doubt till now the best film of the year for me was Amour. And Emmanuelle is miles ahead any of her competitors. Won't win though.

I cannot believe Life Of Pi is nominated for Best film, and Les Mis and Anne, come on...only in America.

am i the only one that hasn't been that interested in film the last year? it's been quite the polar opposite of 2011. i think the only thing i saw all year at the cinema was 'moonrise kingdom' and the only movie i want to is the impossible. other than that....blah. otherwise i SO hope naomi watts wins this year. i know there's much abuzz about jessica chastain taking home the statue but given the weight that's been described of watts,i wouldn't underestimate her at all.

You're missing out. There have been so many good films. Beasts of the Southern Wild, Zero Dark Thirty, Smashed, Killer Joe, The Master, Samsara, A Royal Affair, Tabu, Argo, Damsels in Distress, Silver Linings Playbook, Amour and as you said, Moonrise Kingdom. The Impossible had some fantastic sequences, but other than that, it's nothing new.

I still need to see Django Unchained, Life of Pi, Lincoln, The Sessions and some others.

Don't know why I said I need to see Lincoln, I saw that last night.

I watched Beasts of the Southern Wild and just wanted to adopt little Quvenzhane Wallis. She was excellent as a fierce little survivor. I always wonder how directors get such young children to effectively convey the emotions necessary for dramatic films.

I don't think Wallis has a chance but I'm glad to see her recognized.

I was so impressed with everyone involved with that film. I'm sorry Ben didn't get a director's nod, but I'm so glad Benh Zeitlin got nominated. What a stellar directorial debut! And of course, little Quvenzhane, what a revelation. Her performance was so powerful and heartbreaking. That she was just five when she filmed this, is amazing. Zeitlin has said over and over again that she needed very little coaching actually, and that the process was very collaborative. I love the story he tells about her asking him whether he wanted her to get "blue angry, red angry, or purple angry." Too bad Dwight Henry didn't get recognized as well.

I agree with this. I liked Lincoln and DDL is good as per usual, but his win would be such a predictable move. I'm not usually of the mind that you award someone new for the sake of versatility and freshness, but I realized how annoyed I was with DDL's 99 percent chance of success when I watched the BFCAs, knowing they would give it to DDL for what was essentially a walk in the park for him. We know that he can do this kind of thing and do it well. But even if it was just that, I wouldn't mind him winning, except that he did not give, IMO, the most interesting or even the strongest performance this year. It was the same thing with Meryl Streep last year. It seems that when you do a biopic, you automatically win over the AMPAS.

I actually think Bradley Cooper stands a good chance of upsetting the mighty DDL. Silver Linings Playbook is on a roll. Plus Bradley has really paid his dues from getting his degree in acting, graduating from The Acting Studio and working his way up from television, stage and now the silver screen. He is also seems to be really well-liked maintaining friendships with pretty much every, director or actor he works with. I have yet to read anything negative about him regarding his work habits or general regard in the acting community. When you compare him to someone standoffish--and Oscarless-- like Leo DiCaprio I like Bradley's chances.

THIS. It's so annoying. I really didn't think My Week With Marilyn warranted a nomination for Michelle Williams- but it was a biopic so...

I'm so happy for Argo and Ben Affleck. I liked the movie a lot, but I would've never thought about going to bet for it/him, until he was snubbed for Best Director. Now I want nothing more than for the film to win Best Picture. It was a terrible snub and I hope the Academy members feel the same way I do.

Other than Best Supporting Actor category (honestly did not see Waltz coming), the Globes went just as one could have expected. Best Actress category should be a tight race to the very end: Jessica or Jennifer? I'm thinking Jennifer should prevail, but who knows.

And I agree with the earlier discussion about Daniel Day Lewis. I've never really got the hype about him tbh. I do agree that he's a great actor, but I feel like he does the same thing over and over again. He's really the male Meryl Streep, imo. Sorry, I know she's good, but come on. Shame he's going to win AGAIN.

First TV. I knew Homeland and Girls would win. It was good.

Film well did NOT see Hugh winning. Totally thought Bradley had it in the bag. I agree MyNameIs re DDL. I watched Lincoln yesterday. He's an outstanding actor but I just really want Joaquin to win.

YAY to Jessica and Jennifer. Both had great speeches. I think it's going to be Jessica that goes all the way to the Oscars though.

YAY for QT. Would love to see him get all the others. He hasn't won since Pulp Fiction.

I have a feeling that Ben is going to get the Globe, DGA and the Bafta. Which will then make his Oscar snub even more stupid. Loved his shout out to PTA.

Surprised about Les Mes. Really thought SLP would get it. I'm fine with Argo. I liked ZD30 and Django more but it's still really good. I found Lincoln to be so boring. I know I should feel more cause it's about ending slavery but it just dragged on.

SAGs in 2 weeks woo.

So the press is saying Jodie Foster both came out and retired in the same speech, LOL! For a person who also says (in the same speech) that she longs for privacy, she's got a funny way of showing it!

^i think what she meant by that was the constant invasiveness by paps. remember that incident early last year during which she and her son had gone to see a movie and the press were trying to get into their faces and taking pictures of her child? she was very upset about that. also i think the two revelations was to shut people up already because those are the same questions she gets endlessly.

anyway,it's not that i haven't been aware of any of the films out there,i just haven't been convinced enough to see any of them. lincoln to me is just overrated big budget only perpetuated by spielberg's money. i like day-lewis but it's not enough to warrant. les mis....just looks annoying to me and i don't like anne hathaway. now there was one other film that i forgot about that looked interesting to me too which was cotillard's 'rust and bone'.

^ I get that she was talking about the paps, but it's ironic because, with a speech like that, she's done anything but quiet the flapping mouths. If anything, she drew a lot of attention to herself, be it deliberately or not.

I understand that stars want privacy and that invasiveness is probably worse than ever in our media-driven society, but there are a lot of perks that come with celebrity and so it seems somewhat superfluous to complain. It's part of the business, being in the public eye, alas. Lots of stars manage to keep a low profile - look at Tilda, for example. Or look at the way even Brad and Angelina have been nowhere to be seen for months. Plus many other stars manage to be in the public eye a lot and are rather graceful about it. Fame is a double-edged sword methinks.

well generally jodie does keep an extremely low profile....you rarely if ever hear much about her unless it pertains to a film of sorts. but i get the frustration because when you're out doing everyday non-entertainment things....it's like you're no longer allowed to be a private citizen anymore. i understand what you're saying but i kind of understand how a normally private person that jodie is,used that moment to sort of speak out. you have the eyes and the ears.

I was pleased that Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence all won awards, I had a feeling they would be the one's to walk away with the GG's. I was also so excited that Adele won for Best Original Song, I love that it just fits so perfectly with the James Bond movies but is also a great song in it's own right, her speech was charming and sweet. Plus, did ya'll see Taylor Swift's face when Adele won, that was priceless!

I was a bit disappointed that Amy or Tina didn't didn't win Best Actress, Television Comedy or Musical they are both so funny and I would have preferred that one of them to win over Lena. They definitely showed just how hilarious they are while hosting last night, but unfortunately I think because they are on more "mainstream" shows it hindered their ability to win. Tina could still be nominated for her last season of 30 Rock next year though, right?

This year's Golden Globes was really fantastic over all, I was so impressed with Amy and Tina, and pretty much want them to host everything from now on. And I loved Kristen Wiig and Will Farrell five minute intro/skit, it was pure brilliance and had me in stitches of laughter.
