I have pretty narrow feet, so while I fit into a 7 length wise, my foot is really a 6 width wise, but couldn't dare fit into a 6. Because of that, my feet tend to slide up in the back. Any secrets or tricks to avoid that?

I also have unusually narrow feet. I find that in the US they make shoes with HUGE widths, even if they're marked to be regular. I haven't found a solution, other than just buying my shoes in Europe which may not be very practical for everyone!

I have found that Nine West tends to have more normal sized widths though, as far as US brands go.

i think some bcbg shoes also tend to be cut a bit narrower from my experience...

not sure of any other solution in terms of making the shoes you already have fit better...

Heel grips prevent slipping and painful rubbing. You can get them in all sorts of material. Use the gel ones. I have them too!

I have the same problem, the worst part is not being able to buy shoes online because I'm afraid they'll be way too wide :(
I find that vintage stores have great shoes, they were made much more narrow back in the day. I scored a vintage pair of super narrow balenciaga's in a second hand shop.....for $35! The woman kept marking them down because she couldn't find anyone who could fit in them.

Nine West make very narrow shoes... I have the gladiator wedges in 5.5, and they fit me perfectly

^not narrow enough for really narrow feet I guess because I had to go down a half size to make the sandals fit. Otherwise my feet will slide forward because the straps are too loose.. But I have to agree, they are much better than other sandals I have.

often if I put a cushioned insole in, it helps me. It helps because even though it does not change the width of the shoe, it pushes my foot up against the top in the same way someone's foot would be who is wider than mine (wider usually means thicker also) so then I do not slide around as much.

^I know what you mean, but sometimes you can see the insole which I don't like.. It works does work certain strappy sandels though!
