Natalie Portman

...Nose jobs and plastic surgery isn't the discussion topic here though, what matters more is her style. Lets keep on topic :)

Plastic surgery does have something to do with the person's style and appearance.

But anyway, in every single forum, there are comments outside celebrities' styles, such as Kate Moss's scandal, MK dropping out of NYU, Lindsay Lohan hanging out with Kate, a Kate&Depp thread, you name it.

Why is this particular subject the ONE bothering you? Do you go around telling everyone to stick to the subject?

On the other hand, there isn't much to tell about Natalie's style. Like it was mentioned before, she doesn't seem to care much about fashion and simply wears jeans and sweaters when she goes out. Nothing really special.

hey everybody,

I had to smile a couple of times when reading all the statements about nat´s personality. For those who call her a hypocrite for saying she is wasn´t beautiful in her own eyes: what would you think of her, when she was like "hey, yeah I´m definately outstanding and beautiful"...would this make you like her more? To me being a bit modest isn´t such a bad thing. And don´t forget how journalists put interviews together. They quote the way they want to. I recently had the "pleasure" being quoted in two articles and my quotations ended up totally mixed up. So don´t go wasting your time judging her. Look at her, like or dislike her acting, her style or if necessary her nose but please don´t take little interview outtakes or even articles for granted cause they only show pieces of someone we all don´t know in person.

i think she's pretty but very very overrated as an actress. i thought closer was rubbish and star wars... well, i'm not going to even go there. i think her voice sounds the same all the time.. it can't convey much emotion imo.

if you dont like her thats fine its your own opinion, just like i have mine, and you cant start yelling at a person just for telling you stop, Girlnterrupted, thats extremely rude!!! and ok you think she had a nose job, i dont, that doesnt mean im trying to make myself believe she doesnt, i could care less, its just a nose job! and last time i checked, she doesnt go 'preaching around thinking she is a role model'. To me, her nose look the same, just a TINY TINY TINY TINY bit different, not as big as you are making it out to be!!! And if your saying she is a hypocrite for thinking breast implants are gross and getting a nose job, then look how different they are!!!! breast implants are completely gross and you are putting something in your body, and for a nose job, which if she did get one, looks basicly the same! its not as dramatic!

for those NEW MEMBERS with VERY few posts here...
please familiarize yourself with tFS guidelines...

please do NOT argue with members who have a different opinion than you do...
this is a public forum...expect that people will have differing opinions...
agree to disagree and do so in a respectful manner....
this is how we do it here...

thank you...

*plastic surgery has nothing to do with style...
please move on...

you can talk about 'body issues' in body and soul...

Gasoline, I think you're dead on about why people love/hate Natalie. She gives off that too perfect vibe, but not in the Paris Hilton/barbie doll sense, it's more the "I speak 5 languages and went to Harvard" type of perfect.

It's the same thing for her fashion choices. Should you admire her for picking lesser-known, alternative designers instead of looking like the next Hollywood clone, or should you look at it as she tries way too hard to come of as unique and therefore must be full of herself?

Personally, there was this pair of Marc Jabobs sunglasses I was considering buying. Then People published a photo of her wearing them and that sealed the deal for me, I bought them. Needless to say, they looked baaad on me :)

i don't see why she gets so much more attention than her contemporaries like Ricci and Paquin, who are very better actors and have more outstanding looks and style.

i don't think Nat has a look to remark upon at all, which isn't to say she's ugly, there's just nothing different about her.
to me she comes off as a wannabe Wino Ryder type in appearance and attitude and always has. Her look, the "flawless" thing, has been Ryder's look for decades.
her acting has always been really blase and lackluster too.

i completely fail to see what is so appealing and why she is so routinely desired for anything.
It probably has to do with her lack of a reputation. She's an easy one to hire, since most stars ending up acquiring some type of weird rep one in one way or another immediately when they become famous.

as for comparisons to audrey....i agree, no way. not even at the slightest. if anyone comes close to remsembling audrey it'll be someone like Ryder.

it's lame that anytime someone has a simple, elegant style, they're considered the next audrey....or when they're playful and sensual (like Scarlett J.), they're the next Monroe. Gross. What a shame. :(

Nope... not even close to Audrey...
I see so many Natalies like that when I walk on the street...
Her appearance is sooo average at best...
Strangely enough, guys dig her! I don't get it!

Um, from what ive always been able to see, it's sure easy to say thats guys simply dig any girl if the time is right. there really isn't that much to understanding what attracts a guy (which isnt much, if anything.)
girls try far too hard to do it when it's so unnecessary.

I don't understand why everyone is on a roll bashing her and her style...
Winona Ryder is not the only person in the world that is allowed to have a certain look..Everyone has inspiration, including celebrities, so if she is at all like Winona Ryder, who cares? I am inpired by both of them in my style..Is that something to be ashamed of?
I think guys like her because she sems like a normal girl who happens to be very smart and pretty...In my opinion she could be a lot more obnoxious about how intelligent she is..Everytime i have read an interview with her, she is not talking down to the interviewer or making them feel dumb and seems very open and approachable (and I have read mannnny interviews)

And, personally, (since this is what the thread is about afterall) I think that she DOES have a style..and I disagree that she always looks comfortable and does not appear to care about fashion...To me she always looks so simple yet carries the clothing extremely well...She is very petite and she knows how to dress for her body type (being 5'0, I know that simpicity is key for petite women, not just lack of interest in clothes or being boring)..I also give her respect for having a few key pieces in her wardrobe and wearing them for years in various ways, always managing to look fresh and beautiful...To me, she does not seem materialistic about clothing and always having a new outfit, but she is stylish..You can certainly be stylish in jeans, a sweater, and a cute jacket..It's more in the attitude...

This is not to mention her choices for public events which are always right on...She always looks amazing at premieres, parties, award shows, etc. To me, she is stunning with very interesting, elvin features (like her cool ears and eyebrows/eyes)...She is never overdone with make up, jewelery, or dress which results in a look of natural beauty

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of her, but I just don't understand why people seem to be joining tfs just with the intention of ripping her apart...there is a thread for tons of stars, so it is easy to find at least one whose style you may appreciate more

I think the reason people tend to criticize her is because on the other side of the spectrum, she gets a lot of attention that some people don't understand. I personally think she was great in Leon and Beautiful Girls, but wasn't too impressed with the rest of her filmography, so I'm curious about what makes her so special now, since those films were like 10 years ago.

But anyway, I haven't followed much of Winona Ryder, why do people compare Natalie to Winona all the time? Does Natalie really try to emulate Winona in any way? Does she really dress/act like her in any way? I'm just not very familiar with Winona Ryder, except for a few films I've seen her on.

I was only responding to

Otherwise, I have never heard that comparison made before

Well, I've heard of that before somewhere else. Also, I think someone, maybe on this same forum, called Natalie "Winona's doppelganger." So it seems like a lot of people think that way.
