In the October issue, my column was focused on British avant-garde it-girl Natasha Khan, who plays under the name Bat for Lashes. As my space in the magazine is somewhat limited, here are some tidbits from our interview that didnâ¿¿t make it into the column.

First off, after graduating from Brighton University with an art degree (that was half visual, half music), Natasha actually worked for a few years at a nursery school. I asked her what drew her to that job and she said, "I needed to start working to pay the bills, I thought it would be a really good idea to get a job that involved an element of creativity, fun, and playfulness. So I got my qualifications in childcare. I got to work with the really little ones and we used to do paintings and story telling and sing lullabies. And in the evening I would be developing my Bat for Lashes ideas and themes, and writing the songs that kind of inhabit this universe in my mind."

Secondly, though her music is ethereal and breezy, Natasha is actually more of a workaholic. "I'm a perfectionist," she says. "It's just my nature to want to do things all the time. I go through phases of obsessions."

Third, Natasha grew up loving Bjork albums like Debut and Post and recently found out that the Icelandic singer is a fan of hers as well. "Bjork really knocked my socks off when she came to my showâ¿¿it was ridiculous!" Natasha says. "I couldn't believe it. I was very flattered. The whole thing was kind of surreal. She was very nice she came and said hi, and I thought she was lovely."

The last cool detail of our interview concerned her haunting, lovely cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire." I asked her where the inspiration to include that song on the album came from and she replied: "I thought it was really sexy. I couldn't stop thinking about it for a while. One day I was trying to write a new song, but I couldn't get out the chorus out of my head. It wouldn't go away so I decided to turn it into a cover."

This thread is too small, I want more pics & info about Natasha or anything related to Bat For Lashes I saw her on march on live in her tour wiith Coldplay and her performance was amazing! Her style is really inspiring without mentioning that she's prettier in person
