New Pornographers - opinions?

I've heard ravings about the new New Pornographers release. Anyone concur? I heard similar ravings about the latest Pernice Brothers release, which i was a bit disappointed by. Not that it was bad, but i feel they have some potential that they haven't quite lived up to yet and the latest didn't fulfill that. I consider New Pornographers to be similar, so i am looking for opinions before i put down my $15.

My bf is a huuge np fan and loves this album. He too didn't think the pernice brothers was as good as previous albums, so maybe you too will like the NP album I myself haven't listened to it yet, but as i said, he loves it. Hope that helps in some way

they're pretty good, sort of generic indie rock type stuff. the songs from the new album i've heard are ok, but i wouldn't call 'twin cinema' one of my new favorites.

I like them a lot. Very poppy, catchy, and fun. I only have the "Electric Version" album though, haven't heard much else. I would like to see the perform.

I'd also like to add that "Letters from an occupant" is the BEST song ever to sing along with. Preferably in a car.

what do they sound like...... any similar artists.... i've been hearing A LOT about them these days.....

they don't sound like other bands i know, but they're usually filed under power pop. so if you like matthew sweet, say, or fountains of wayne, prob'ly you'd like them too. start with their first cd, mass romantic, it's the one that made them famous, and rightfully so. as with most bands, either you'll get them or you won't but i guarantee that if you do like them, you'll like them a LOT.

the name, by the way, is a phrase jimmy swaggert ('member him?) applied to today's pop musicians, so np took it as an ironic badge of honor... B)

Fabulous band. A pop-ier fare than my usual, but very lovely.

I Saw them at last summer's Lollapalooza. Hands down the most I've danced around at a show in a long time. It would have been better had Neko been there, but it still rocked! We also saw the band walking down the street on our way back from breakfast
