Johnny Rocco Boutique Opens April 16th in Brooklyn

2 April 2005

Tired of schlepping their fabulous finds from Manhattan to their Carroll Gardens home, recent Brooklyn transplants Johnny Rocco and Patrick Willingham were determined to create a shopping destination in the borough where they would be proud to shop.

Their xanadu, the eponymous boutique JOHNNY ROCCO, was conceived as a place where international style meets street urchin, with pop-infused strains of vintage and classics for men and women. The shop is part of the burgeoning Atlantic Avenue boutique scene, nestled amongst antique stores and Muslim merchants. Its shimmering walls reflect a clothing palette that is both conventional and outrageous, influenced by the international travels and shopping obsessions of Johnny Rocco. In addition to an array of fashion forward designers from New York, LA, Europe and Japan, the shop will carry its own JOHNNY ROCCO line of shoes, bags and apparel.

Johnny Rocco is a nine year veteran of Steve Madden, where he learned the ropes in everything from sales, to licensing, to styling and shoe design. This fashion school dropout was determined to share with the world his own magical sense of style and fantastical fun. His partner Patrick Willingham, currently employed as the President and Chief Operating Officer of the performance art conglomerate BLUE MAN GROUP, was trained in theatrical design and management. He infuses the stylings of his partner with both an eclectic shopping environment and a back-end business discipline. Together, the two have pledged to save fashion, one victim at a time.

As the newest of the new avenues to undergo a style makeover, Atlantic is indeed a destination for fashionistas, art collectors, and antique fiends. Consistent with the partner’s desire to bring fashion and fun to their “it” Brooklyn community, JOHNNY ROCCO will be the only boutique in the Atlantic Avenue/Boerum Hill area carrying both men’s and women’s fashion forward apparel and accessories.

Women’s lines include Bulga (a hard to find, Jessica Simpson favorite), Lotta Stennson (an ethereal Moroccan-esque muse), C Ronson (the mainstay of the current LES “fun girl”), West Village of London (an unbelievable blend of flow, color, and the real Soho boho), Day of Denmark (source of the REAL party outfit), Kisaya Myles (one-of-a-kind etched-bronze romance), Ynnub (a brand revisiting yesterdays castaways on their way to a rock and roll brouhaha), T bags (taking the street to the beach), and a vast assortment of cozy and delicious pieces from Alternative Apparel, Norsah, and the embroidered gorgeousness of Johnny Was.

For the men, Yoko Devereaux (highly styled T’s and highly tailored suits and coats), Cabral (for the surfer turned investment banker who knows how to roll on the weekend), Salvage (the staple for LA rocker meets Abercrombie and Fitch), Donn Mason (the newest in bachelor pad “intimates”), Nobody (an Aussie answer to the LES – with nobody gives a sh*t thermals), and an assortment of T’s and tops from b.b. London, 2K Gingham, Religion and O.P.

Top it all off with the JOHNNY ROCCO collection, pieces and findings that Mr. Rocco decided to showcase for his Brooklyn girls, including wrap shorts, so-retro-their-hot-again blouses, vintage bathing-wear-inspired bodysuits and a gauzy dress fresh from the isle of Cozumel.

JOHNNY ROCCO is located at 426 Atlantic Avenue between Bond and Nevins. The shop will be open Tuesday through Sunday noon to 7pm. Open additional times by appointment. Phone: 718-596-6974 JOHNNYROCCO.COM – Coming soon
