New York City - Via Bus Stop open

honestly, i don't think there is a big market for shops like via or onward cos it is too celebrity-obsessed there!

And trend obsessed....

I didn't even know NY had an Onward,Soft. Must've been short-lived,no? With the amount of publicity the one in Paris has had, though, one would have expected it to have done well.

Runner,I remember you expressing your disdain for that place at one time.

Honestly, the selection was very poor. I didn't see anything interesting there the few times I walked in. They moved it around the corner to a much smaller place to make room for this one.

i think it was around about 3 yrs or more before closing...i actually never even stepped foot in the store...from what they had in the windows it was very unappealing ...as is the location...it's a main avenue and the storefront is all glass...it's like shopping on the highway in front of everyone...not a very good experience especially for exclusive and expensive brands...

rather odd...

it seems that this store will also be Via Bus Stop this fall.

ONWARD
147, boulevard Saint Germain - 75006

About that...what exactly will be different? It's all the same company, isn't it? And from what I can see, the selection of labels is quite similar. Just curious....

checked out via bus stop today...not bad actually...

they had hussein chalayan and chalayan...so i got to check out the new line...the prices are actually quite good...
they have a small shoe dept-and lots of accessories scattered around the store...
i think this is the weakest part of their merchandise...

but the anne valerie hash is incredible...just lovely...really...would love to go back and try some on to see how it actually looks on...
also liked some bernhard wilhelm....although the pieces were sort of hit or miss...some adorable and some not good really...

they have a second floor which is completely dedicated to viktor and rolf...some very adorable separates...especially asymmetrical shirts and cute jackets...

they had gibo-(which was very bad :ninja:)
easton pearson-not nearly as good as the fall stuff runner posted...:(

the salesgirl said that a lot of their pieces were stuck in customs and that they were still expecting a great deal of merchandise...so i would say that ...overall...it looks like they're off to a pretty good start...but it's too soon to tell...it still definitely looks like it needs to be tweaked a bit for the american market...imo...

party... B)

Grey leather coat on the boy on the right of the first pic is Cloak. I forgot they did that colorway of my coat.

I'll have to inspect them soon. Too bad I didn't see this thread until tonight - I was just three bloacks away at Atelier today trying on Spring merch!

Thanks, soft!

softie do you know if they had kashura shoes?

I thought that's what that was, but I didn't know they made it in that color, either.

ed-is kashura mens or womens?...they don't have mens...

bakla...too bad...it was my first real venture out of the house since being ill...

Kashura are men's shoes - like the ones I tried on at Destination when you, faust and I went? Those.

oh ok...i remember...thx bakla...
then definitely no...no mens...

I walked by Via Bus Stop yesterday. It's pretty neat! I didn't go in... figured that it wasn't worth the time just yet since there was no menswear.... but I like the look of the place from the outside!

thanks a lot softgrey for the report.

Scott, maybe it's ONWARD group that I mentioned before, if I remember right?

droogist, I don't know exactly how the SG store is. plus there is no store called Onward in Tokyo while we have lots of VBS stores. so I cannot tell the exact difference. sorry.

The store’s unique merchandise comes from collections it produces for the Japanese market for Chalayan, Willhelm, Trosman, Pearson and Hash, as well as Seta Ichiro and Vaughan Alexander.

Onward designs the collections? Does anybody know how this works- do the designers have a hand in the designing or is it a straight-out licenced product?

No worries, I can now answer my own question; I was in the Paris Onward yesterday and asked the manager...apparently there will be no difference at all, apart from the name.

no dear...they produce/maufacture some of the collections and handle distribution in japan...it works slightly differently there...
the distributors are an extra link in the chain over there...it's not a liscensing agreement...just manufaturing and distribution...

at least in the case of these particular designers...:flower:

and you are welcome runner...

They are advertising on top of NYC taxicabs (ala Helmut Lang)...
Good for them....usually only see chains or well established designers doing that.......

theory...they are a huge chain...
they have tons of store in japan and even have stores that just carry accessories over there...

they have CASH>>>$$$$...:flower:
