I dislike when designers/art directors try to get all artsy and funny in their lookbooks and it horribly distracts from the clothes. I can't even be bothered to try to figure out what's part of the designs and what's random scribbling in this. I don't really get the point of doing that.

hi billiemay, could you please provide a credit source for the images? otherwise we will have to remove the thread. TY!

i don't necessarily mind so much trying to create a story with look-books…most can be so bland and unexciting. nina donis they're kind of the bernhard willhelm/henrik vibskov of moscow so they're concepts often lean toward the fantastical, folky and ironic so their work sometimes needs a bit of context. with that said,i've seen better from them….apart from the graphic motif the sweatshirty stuff has become rather staid to me these days.

Good point about trying to create a story in the lookbook. I agree that an interesting, fun lookbook can do wonders for a collection sometimes. But in this case, where I'm not familiar at all with the label and feel like the scribbling is there to distract from the fact that the clothes themselves are not that exciting, I guess a more simple presentation would have worked better.

i will say though that simple can still be interesting depending on who's shooting….like say anuschuka blommers and niels schumm or ronald stoops...their work is generally very simple in composition but still incredibly dynamic. but i do agree..it's not quite the same as say BW's constant collaboration with freudenthal verhagen(if you've ever seen his you'll understand my point)….it's typically fantastical…tells the story of his work but it never detracts from the focus on the clothes.
