No Facial Cleanser No Shampoo - Doing Without

^ Yeah, but you can see what works like if you have break outs you stop using a certain product. You say being minimalist about skincare works for you and your skin loves it so what are you worried of? ^_^

^ that it looks good now, but when im older i will have dried my skin out...

im going to stop thinking about it for now though... maybe its the worring that is the real key! lets just be happy!! and our happyness will made our skin look great!:D

No shampoo? Actually, Ive read that some top hairstylist (who does all the shows & ad campaigns and all that stuff) doesnt belive in using shampoo either, the logic being that hairs' own natural oils is sufficient enough..Eugene Seulieman maybe?
I guess it's possible to do that if a person never puts any kind of product in their hair.

But what if you're a person who usually wears gel or another kind of product in your hair?

Personally, I couldn't do without washing my hair. I don't wash it daily...but every few days, it needs a wash. The thought of not washing it at all seems somewhat gross to me.

I've been sick and i've noticed that being sick i haven't been bothered to do a whole awkward skincare routine and my face was looking great. i think i'll only do a routine maybe once a week from now on.

i haven't been doing my routine for a week and everyone's right - somehow my skin looks better than it's been for a while :woot:

I've tried washing my face with water only but stopped because I was freaking out about the sunscreen. Sunscreens are pretty heavy and they can clog pores so would washing with water be sufficient?

About the no shampoo thing-it's actually better for your scalp/hair. Maybe do conditioner-only washes (sounds weird but some ppl say it works). Shampoo strips off your scalp's natural oils and thus provokes it to produce even more oil, making oily hair.

totally depends on skin type, i use to have horrible acne lets see what would happen if i was lax with the routine now, if i go a night without washing i'm a mess and get those deep pimples and the surface isnt smooth and glowy, if you have normal or dry skin maybe it works but us oily chics have to be diligent...

as far as shampoo i'm black with an afro and i find the best thing is to wash 2x a week or every 3-4 days, i tried the no shampoo method and its not for me cause i use styling products and conditioner alone doesnt get rid of the residue although sometimes in between shampoos i may conditioner rinse if my hair looks dull but this is rare usually in the summer when its humid and the scalp sweats, i think the longest i can go without shampoo is 5 days and then i feel dirty

I tried doing without my facial lotion... no dice... my skin is too dry to not give it anything. I don't even wash it with warm water or anything...

I have a question - I am just starting a treatment with accutane, and it is guaranteed that it will severely dry my skin.

What should my routine be?

Evening:
-splash with water
-moisturize with Shiseido Men hydrating lotion

Morning:
-Cleanse with Shiseido Men cleansing foam (the one Tott mentioned) ->do you think it's gentle enough?
-pat micro-spray sunblock (necessary)
-moisturize with Shiseido Men hydrating lotion.

good?

----Due to the fact that accutane closes sebaceous glands, I won't have a problem with overly oily skin as I do now (to the extremes....)

----also, I have to be extremely gentle w/ my skin and what I put on it, as if I overdry it the consequences won't be good (it 'breaks'). Under accutane skin becomes extremely dry and sensitive, although impeccable.

^ well my friend went on a simular treatment, and he used the face products they supplied him... but i think he told me that he used as little as possible (esspecaily when is comes to cleansing) because his skin got so dry and felt wierd when he used it. now thats hes finished the treatment his skin looks absolutly fantastic!!

maybe you should talk to your dermatologist about it, because they give the best advice. and when you are on a treatment its a bit of a different story... i think people are relucted to give advise to you because they arnt qualified... or unsure?

^Thx, yea, apparently I can't use the hydrating lotion from Shiseido men because it contains alcohol. Well, i'll have a full bottle for when i'm complete w/ the treatment. :flower:

I once went a week without anything for my face but water and sunscreen. I was backpacking and camping in the Norwegian region of Rondane. All we had to wash ourselves with was icy glacial water. And my skin loved it! I didn't look in the mirror during that time, so I don't know if the complexion was much better than usual, but it felt perfect, and there were no noticable problems at least. Of course it was absolutely clean up there, with no pollution.
In contrast - I lived in London for a year, and could not have not cleaned my face every day!

My daily routine now is quite simple - for example, I only moisturize and apply sunscreen when I go out - if I stay in all day, I'd rather not put anything on my face. I never use foundation.
I try not wash my hair too often nor to use too much shampoo either, it really does clog up the scalp :yuk:

I wish I could go without...my t-zone gets really gross without washing. I wear makeup regularly too, so it has to come off.
I wash my face just once a day; when I shower in the morning. That does the job. At night I use a spot-cream for zits and blackheads, as needed.

Better to cleanse at night and not in the morning, to rinse off all the dirt from the day. That's what I've read in magazines and it makes sense to me, especially for people who live in the city.

I did Accutane too, I definately got dry but it wasn't all that bad. Except for the lips, that was what was really bad.

face
i use dr.bronners magic soap for my face since it is so oily and it strips away all the oil and makes my face feel nice and smooth. i would not recommend this for ppl with dry skin but it does say to dilute it on the bottle.

shampoo
haven't found anything good.

It does totally depend on environment...living in London, I find that the air quality and pollution means that I do have to wash my hair everyday. Skin too, for that matter, I just feel grubby if I don't do it and I know I will suffer if I don't do the whole routine, so for me, it's actually easier and better to put up with the whole thing because it does yield results.
