'Nu-Rave'

 Hideous..............it was bad the first time around in the early 90s.

Looks like the circus let out early.

I think the primary thing to take away from this style is bright colors. Those are some pretty nice dresses, holiday. I'm sure it's pretty cold in Sweden. These dresses are pretty hot. So much so that it feels like summer in Malibu, CA. I'm somehow drawn to big shoes on ladies. I think they would be best for flare-legged jeans and pants. Perhaps even long-enough skirts. Yes, I have seen some appropriate skirts adorned with sneakers before. This is a time trend I can relate to unlike the '80s crap someone HAD to bring back. And as I said, I'm not a rock guy. So it is great to see something besides classic rock influence and related fashion. It is a youthful look in my eyes. I'd never leave the house in pure raver trim, but it would be interesting to see what ladies (and even men) can come up with if this look leaves the airport runway and soars as high as an eagle.

I'm not going to wear it (those colours don't suit me, this will make me look as white as a sheet...), but it looks interesting and fresh. Makes me think of the early nineties, when I was ten years old and started listening to music... And yes, back then, I liked (often Dutch and Belgian) rave music.

I hope to see some things like this on the Dutch streets.

most of these kids don't do the neon thing during the day, it's strictly a look for parties. some of it looks cool, but as i said somewhere else i think - the whole scene can be a little too 'try-hard' and fake at times.

am i the only one here that has dressed in neon:unsure:

it wasnt out of sake for looking 'cool' it was my friends birthday and god did the neon make that night more interesting:woot:

if you dare to try and find my myspace you can view the glory of my neon green legs:lol:

Here is my take on this trend. It's not that I don't like it, because I appreciate any style that's daring, decorative, and colorful. It just feels anachronistic.

Rave exploded at a time when the economy was booming, there weren't any "major" wars (of course there are wars going on always), and the overall mood was unjaded and carefree. It's no coincidence that the best selling fragrance was Clinique Happy.

If fashion reflects what is going on in society, then I think the more somber trends are more "appropriate". They just feel more right, I don't know how else to explain it. Then again, maybe this nu rave trend is a defiant backlash against all this misery.

i like bright colors but this is taking it to the extreme!

I used to love it .. but im over it now i guess ...b ut still love my glow sticks et all :)
I think it was exspected to be bigger then it actually was.. unless it all of a sudden it has a massive massive explosion. I think this is very much a street trend to start off with, starting to weave its way in .. i think it wont hit the masses just yet :) god i am not making sense at all lol hopefully some one will understand me

I don't think this will be a trend. I think it will prob stay where it's always been, just at nightclubs and raves. And I think that the collection posted was just a very very well done tribute to Gianni Versace as far as the vibrant "rave" colors, beading and hardware. I don't think we'll see Balenciaga or Gucci doing "rave" collections but I could be wrong, I guess we'll have to see.

it's like a water downed version of harajuku street style...

i like it to some degree. just before it hits tackiness..but than again...it suppose to look tacky and overdone.

this reminds me of these two girls in grade 10 that dress very grunge-rave. reminds me of me when i was in grade 10..

Couldntve put it better myself.

Those nu-rave kiddies are mere pretenders to the throne of the cyberkids (and i mean the real cyberkids, us original ones who made their own clothes instead of buying an identikit cyberdog oufit, and stopped wearing it when it became passe at the end of 2001) I bet they wouldnt have the slightest clue what a mitsubishi was. That was a proper subculture, not just some fad manipulated by the media!

Reach for the lasers, safe as f*ck! Haha.

mmmm.

i'm not a fan of chicks on speed though they do have a place i suppose.

i liked the first picture. maybe coz the neon was om single blocks (a tshirt, shoes) rather than mad graffiti?

This is such a load of crap. It is hardly comparable to raver culture in the 90s (well I guess that is what the 'new' is for [I refuse to say nu]) because there was a culture in the 90s. Raves simply dont exist anymore because of the clamping down by the law enforcers. I am sorry but wearing neon to indie clubs in London does not really have anything to do with rave. The music is wrong, the drugs are gone and the people are too middle class. Not that there is anything wrong with any of those things. I am not saying that these people have nothing on the cyberkids. I am sure they had pretensions enough amongst them. It is just that 'Rave' doesn't come into it. '

and the must-have accessory for this look? a black light of course!

personally, I got through my need for neon, in the form of a track jacket and leggings when I was 8 ;)
