Oily / Greasy Hair

I've found the ice mint shower gel from H2O will help combat the oil, keeps your hair less oily longer. Dr. Bronners peppermint or even Selsun Blue can work those tinglies onto the scalp. I wash my hair everyday, concentrate on the scalp, and make sure to condition the ends real good (i.e. Neutrogena 60-second Repair once in a while).

Dietwise, I was on a strict diet of fruits, legumes and vegetables only, no caffeine, sugars or meat. It wasn't for my hair but to lose weight -- but noticed my hair was much less oilier and stayed cleaner for longer.

I have such oily hair that I wash it every single day with Head and Shoulders, not b/c of dandruff, but because it's the ONLY shampoo that doesn't make it look oily! I tried the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree, and it didn't do a thing for my hair! I've never used conditioner in my hair, ever, because my mom says that'll make it more oily. I think I may try the Korres shampoo!

Also, any products make my hair so so greasy. I straighten my hair quite often, and would like to every day pretty much, so I got the TreSemme heat tamer, and it looks so disgusting!

Hopefully Korres works...

my hair is also very oily but also dry. i also have dandruff, even after washing, and sometimes it only takes a single night for the newly washed hair to get oily again! (i sleep on it wet). it's terribly frizzy, poofy, and just.. unmanageable. by the way i'm asian which is strange because most asians are blessed with lovely hair. any advice?

Nothing really works for oily hair. I wash it everyday after spending a fortune in super expensive treatments and products that did nothing.

My Asian hair is fine but also wiry, and I have to work at keeping my hair shiny and straight (gel, spray). I usually make sure I concentrate the shampooing on the scalp -- so if you are using a dandruff shampoo, focus on cleaning the scalp really well. For the frizzies, conditioning the ends work, just keep the conditioner away from your scalp. Or, if you don't use conditioner, try using a citrus detangler after your shower. I use one made by Suave for kids, it's really nice, prevents flyaway and smooths it down a bit.

Try shampooing first thing in the morning, rather than right before bed... that could be part of the problem!

Aussie has a new product out for hair that is oily on top and dry closer to the ends. I forget what it's called, but it's specially formulated to combat that problem.

Does anyone know where to get the hair power from an actual store, in person purchase? From what i've seen online, it looks like one could get it only from ebay. It wouldn't have to be Bumble & Bumble, even an alternative.

What has helped me in reducing the look of oily hair by the 2nd day is to clip the front part of my hair into a little poof after blowdrying the 1st day & wear it in that hairstyle. I'm always able to go a 2nd day w/out shampooing my hair if i wear it in a poof the day before. I fashion my hair any way by the 2nd day b/c there's no way I can get by w/out a shampoo by the 3rd.

TRy using TRIATOP since it's very gentle it can be used everyday. My dermatologist gave it to me and since then I have no more greasy hair. I wash my hair twice a week now, before I washed them every single day.:flower:

I am the same exact way. I HAVE to wash my hair every single day or else I can't walk out of the house!! I've heard that small things like just putting conditioner on the very ends of your hair (instead of all over) will help make it less oily.

I hear that washing your hair with cold water is good for that because heat activates oil pores. I have the same problem. My hair is oily and I try to wash it as often as I can. Except when I get it blow-dried by the 2nd day it's very oily. OOh and also I heard from some tv show that conditioner is bad for oily hair too unless it's formulated especially for it. Let me make a suggestion, try not to emphasize on your scalp when it comes to conditioner don't rub it in too much.

This problem started not long ago, at the end of the day my hair gets really greasy, I can't wash my hair every day cause it's long and takes much time to straighten it with irons, so I'm washing it once in 2 days
could this be because of frequent usage of straightening irons? cause my hair ends are very very dry, but roots are greasy. But I can't stop ironing causeI hate my frizzy curls!
Can fatty food cause greasy hair? do I have to keep the diet?

Have you changed anything in your routine lately?

It's possible that your shampoo could cause it. Some say that a harsh shampoo can make you overproduce. But in my case, a stronger cleanser works best. I'm not positive if food would have a large effect, unless you're eating a lot of fish. When people take fish oil capsules, many claim to produce more oil. Excess styling might have an effect (because of the scalp stimulation), but again, I really don't know. I'm sure someone else can be of more help.

I have heard that more you touch your hair more it gets greasy, and especially straightening irons can do that..

hehe.. my friend has that problem too....
and my other friend suggested to her to put talcum/baby powder and brush it out! apparently thats what they do to people in comas in the hospital to clean they're hair.

Have a try using it, but if u have black hair - it might make it slightly grey but it'll be better than it being greasy :flower:

I think it's good that you only wash every two days. I don't know what to say to help but just that I've heard people generally wash hair to much and that can cause you to produce more oil. Does your hair look greasy or is it something only you can notice? B/c some oil is helpful to your hair and natural. Maybe try wearing it up in a knot/bun or ponytail on the second day?

my hair isn't curly at the roots, just on the length, so I'm not using iron on my roots, but I've heard that overheating dries hair and it produces more oil... maybe it's the reason?
my hair gets greasy mostly around my face - I mean my fringe etc and on my temples:blink:

my hair is dark, but I've heard that putting talcum on hair shouldn't be done often, just in emmergency cases when u really have no time to wash ur hair

thanks, mainly it's not that greasy... just my fringe sometimes (it's side fringe, not on the whole forehead) at the end of the day
oh I think I'll just cut my hair a little and will go with my natural curls  cause straightening is too damaging

you could try shampooing jut the bangs, i know when i have bangs, i have to wash them more often than the rest of my hair.

also, do you deep condition? or use conditioner? make sure you only use it on the ends and not near the roots, because that can cause it too.

i have really oily hair, so i have to watch what kinds of shampoos i use and how often i wash my hair. Dove shampoo really works well, it cleans your hair, but doesn't weigh it down at all...

you can actually buy colored talk powder just for this reason at a beauty supply place. they make brown, black, red and blonde...to make hair less shiny..:flower:
