That's one things celebs and the masses have in common: They all think it makes them look sexy. Unfortunately, it usually doesn't.

I still maintain they do it to slim their faces down and accentuate cheekbones. Others do it just to be overtly sexual. Why can't they just smile with their teeth?!

It's just awful. I can't get over how Ai Tominaga is doing it so shamelessly!!!

Some of them pout in an obvious way whereas others purse their lips and widen their eyes a little, giving the goldfish look

Pouting is what happens naturally when one smiles without showing their teeth.
Obviously, some celebs empathsize this, but for the most part on those candids it's just the result of a closed-mouth smile!

I agree 100%.

Although I must say those Olsen twins (why are they still famous?) seem to do it intentionally, a lot!

Keira is always doing it deliberatedly, she annoys me . Pouting is cute when it happens every now and then, but when someone pouts 24/7, it looks a bit stupid.

actually, I think keira can't help it (mostly) -- she's got an overbite or underbite or something going on with her jaw that seems to predispose her to it.

I once met a woman (non-celebrity) who pouted all the time and I learned that she was terrified to smile because she might get smile lines -- seriously. when she laughed she clamped her mouht shut and stuck out her lips -- at first I thought she was trying to hide bad teeth, but later on her [ex] boyfriend told me she was paranoid about getting wrinkles. bizarre.

This look is taught in modeling schools, and by fashion photographers. It has been around forever. I have assisted on shoots where the photographer insisted on it. I think it probably becomes an automatic response to the camera after a while.
