i agree with you about missy, but that is the australian way- build them up to vertigo- inducing heights, and then tear them down... i think she will follow in deltas footsteps and catch the tall poppy syndrome soon. (ps i like your avavtar, mine is dali too.)

I never really liked her voice though... she sings really occa but doesn't have it when she speaks:lol:

Oh, let me add Green Day to my overrated list.

AMEN!:woot: I go out in public places and mention prefering someone like, say, Radiohead to Green Day and get chewed out. C'mon- there were so many good concept albums realeased last year, like Frances the Mute by the Mars Volta and American Idiot got all the attention.

This bored is crazy- it's the only place I go to and feel mainstream  .

Now, even though Neil Young is widely acknowledged & known, I wouldn't call him "overrated," because he hasn't gotten too much else besides, well, he gets played on the radio, many people, typically older, listen to his music & enjoy it, but it is not as though he is on the same scale as, say, Bob Dylan in terms of recognition/appreciation. I believe, if anything, that Neil Young is underrated in relation to lyric/song-writing. I believe he should be on the same scale as Bob Dylan.

Random: I suspect that Neil Young is a friend of Bob Dylan's because he read out a 'letter from Bob' at one of his concerts...

(not to mention that Neil described himself as a 'B student' of Dylan)

I think sometimes you have to dig deeper into these bands to really appreciate them. I think the thing with U2 has been their transitions, and that they have been able to appeal to a wide array of audiences throughout their career. In the early 80's they were in the college/punk scene, and worked into more of a rock sound. Their lyrics and relatability is what made them big in the late 80's, and they did a 180 in the early 90's and released something more like 90's rock. I think another band that has changed their overall tune have been REM (underrated, in my opinion).

Sometimes the beauty of music is in the ear of the beholder. But sometimes why these bands/artists get so famous is because they appeal to so many different people, and that's why they sell records and concert tickets. Numbers don't lie.

To me, Green Day has been overrated as of late. But I'm sure many people would argue this. I just have never enjoyed their music, but I'm sure some people can see the relatabilty in their music and lyrics. I just can't.

Nooo! :o

Overrated:
U2. Most overrated band ever. I like them, but they are not THAT brilliant.
These trendy rock bands like Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Kings of Leon, Bright Eyes and Postal Service.
Coldplay. Same as U2, I do love some of their songs, but I am so tired of them being glorified.
Metallica
The White Stripes

Underrated:
Jeff Buckley. This is because everybody over here only knows him for one or two songs, and love him because of those, but has no idea of how much genious music he made.
Free. Great rock/blues band
Norwegian band Madrugada. They are the most amazing band ever. They really deserve more attention outside of Norway.
Tom Waits
Fleetwood Mac. I really think they should get more credit. This is my favourite band of all time, and I wish more people could see how great they are.

Totally agree on this one, he does not at all get enough credit for his beautiful and intelligent lyrics. He is for sure in the same league as Bob Dylan

Are you referring to Paul Rogers' band? I only know one song by them, "All Right Now", but if they're worth looking into more, I should do that... that's if I have the same band in mind as you...?

Yes! Love that song! Most of their songs are more blues-inspired than that one :flower:

Free! I'm obsessed with that song. my friends nick my ipod just to listen to it! lol
