Pageants and Age Appropriate Makeup

Beauty pageants such as Miss Teen Canada World seem to growing in popularity again, possibly due to the exposure they get on TV channels such as TLC, or to the coverage they get in the new media.

As a makeup artist I’ve done makeup for children and pre-teen girls for photoshoots (with parental consent) but I wonder, what with the increase of high profile events, TV shows, and magazines that glamorize young girls, at what age do you think it’s appropriate for a girl to begin wearing full makeup, as opposed to the tinted lip balms and such that you can buy for kids in toy stores?

I have a professional curiosity in your opinions and I’m also preparing a series of articles on kids’ makeup for my blog so I’m looking forward to reading your comments.

I remember girls in 7th and 8th grade wearing make up so probably around that age.
