Everyone should go see Pan's Labyrinth. It's such a beautiful film in all facets. The visuals are great.

here's a summary from imdb.com
"Pan's Labyrinth" is the story of a young girl who travels with her pregnant mother to live with her mother's new husband in a rural area up North in Spain, 1944, after Franco's victory. The girl lives in an imaginary world of her own creation and faces the real world with much chagrin. Post-war Fascist repression is at its height in rural Spain and the girl must come to terms with that through a fable of her own.

good to see you around!

I keep seeing trailers and I'm so happy that Guillermo got nominated for best foreign film, I think he'll get it..or so I hope!. I missed it when it was out in the theaters..

I reeealy want to see this, but I doubt it will come to our local indie theatre :(

I am sooooo looking forward to seeing this movie! It's supposed to be out this weekend in Boston.

I'm extremely squeamish and I didnt really enjoy a lot of the film, but the fantasy bits are really good. I think it's definatly worth seeing though - just not for the faint hearted !!

damn this town. I really hate the suburbs I live in, clearly no class at all if the local theater isn't showing it... :innocent: :p

hopefully I won't remain broke for long, so I can go see it in SF or something. I'm dying to see this movie.!

I saw this in September at a film festival and I liked it quite a lot. The characters were excellent, I especially liked the Pale Man (Genius! I just wished the scene would have been a little longer :ninja:) and the Faun. The sets and the costumes were beautiful as well. I thought there would have been a lot more fantasy in the film though.. the war part was more predominant. But nevertheless it was a good movie, one of the best I've seen this year.

I think I'll go see it again sometime soon.

i agree. i was disappointed that they don't explore the fantasy more. but interesting nonetheless to see war and magic together.

plenty of people have commented on the film already in the last movie you saw thread...

Im going to see this with my friend next week .. recon its worthwhile ??

i saw this in berkeley (shattuck cinemas) today so maybe you can drive there if it's not going to be a dilemma for you :flower: ^_^ ... as much as i would have loved more fantastical elements, i thought this was a very potent film. definitely worthwhile. i foolishly thought from the images i first saw that the pale man was the faun :ninja: :judge:

actually I just saw it today.! I was going to see it berkeley, but it was playing in a theater a little bit closer.

I thought the movie was brilliant. I loved every minute of it.

I finally saw this last night. Loved loved every minute of it, and I adore the faun - it is so beautiful! I don't think my boyfriend was expecting all of the violence, but the movie did an amazing job at being honest about the war theme along with balancing out the magic and wonder.

It is slowly being released in more theaters as time goes by so I hope everyone gets to see it.

i just saw this (finally!) and it was just heart wrenching and visually stunning. i think it was brilliant for del toro to juxtapose a brutal and recent history and how children would deal with such a harsh reality via imagination and fantasy, for an audience of 18 and over.

even though most of the movie is really intense i think it emphasizes the necessity of the fantasy parts. i agree though that some of those sequences could have been a bit more elborated, epsecially with the monster.
