My Paris Diary:
Sarah Easley edition

PARIS: Friday, March 11, 2005

On Tuesday it was pouring down snow. In all my trips to Paris, I (co-owner of Kirna Zabete) have never seen snow here before. I was thrilled! (This novelty would soon wear off after three days of snow.) After breakfast in the hotel room with my little boy, Jackson, who adores croissants, I put on a bright red Martine Sitbon dress and headed over to the Louvre for the Andrew Gn show at 9.30 AM. Oddly, I was aggressively solicited to do an interview about Andrew for Russian TV before the show. I can't tell the future, so I just spoke about last season, which seemed a bit irrelevant. I sat with Tracy and Regina from Marie Claire and we swapped juicy fashion news bits. After Andrew Gn, I went by MO communications on 33 Avenue de l'Opera to have a look at David Szetzo's second collection, as well as Mulberry Bags. The lovely Linda Dresner team was also there. Since there was no model, I tried everything on for both of us and they took my pictures for me as well as their own—very efficient teamwork!

Next stop, the Ungaro show, back at the LOUVRE. Lots of ’60s-inspired silhouettes in an ’80s palette. So different from Valli's work.

Normally I am running around Paris Fashion Week with my business partner, Beth Buccini. We always stop for a proper, sit-down, hot lunch. As she is about to have a baby in five weeks, she is not in Paris with me this time. She would have disapproved of my crepe-from-a-street-vendor-lunch. It was hot though!

The snow continued and I was running late for Viktor and Rolfe. I took the metro and got there at 2.30 for the 2 pm show. Plenty of time to spare. It was in a tiny, dark old theatre in the 10th arrondissement. After a long wait, I was delighted to see Tori Amos take the stage, decked out in pink Viktor and Rolfe in front of a grand piano. She sang and played while the models walked. It was, as always, quite theatrical, but there were also some beautiful, wearable clothes that the Kirna Zabete girls will love.

After the show I headed over to Colette. They sell great mix CDs that we love to play in the store. One more stop at the fantastic D. Pam on Boulevard St. Germain for baby clothes for Beth's little Josephine and my Jackson. This might be my favorite store in Paris, along with La Duree, which only really sells sweets, cookbooks and candles.

I came back to our little hotel and gave Jackson a bath and got him to bed. I am now waiting in the hotel lobby for my friend Leslie from Balenciaga. We are having dinner in the 6th in a great little spot near the Luxembourg Gardens.

6:30 am. I (Elle's style director) wake up a little before the alarm clock rings. Too early for breakfast. Direct in the shower.

7:30 am. On my way to the American consulate with double layers of clothes for the long line outside.

8:00 am. Not so painful, I am in.

9:30 am. Still waiting for my turn, reading French Elle. Balenciaga may start without me and I am losing patience.

9:40 am. They call me. It takes two minutes to approve the extension of my visas. I run to Balenciaga.

10:45 am. What a great show! We go backstage to congratulate Nicolas.

11:00 am. Quick stop at the pharmacy for some body creams before going to a Christian Louboutin appointment to see his new fabulous shoes. I am starving and wish we stopped at a food store instead.

12:00 pm. Ungaro preview appointment. Models are waiting. Last fittings for Vincent Darre. The show is in 24 hours.

1:00 pm. Finally! Lunch at the Relais plaza with the Nina Ricci team. We arrive early and attack the bread. Lars is very nice and we are having a fun time.

2:30 pm. Time to go to Dior show. Very happy with a full stomach.

3:45 pm. The show starts. I love the beginning. Very ’60s with the croc boots and cap he had for couture. Great shearlings and short knit dresses.

4:30 pm. Meet with Elle Japan for some pictures at my hotel. I have to do a little report on the shows. It is fun but more work than I thought.

6:00 pm. A lot of traffic to arrive at the Gaultier show but it is one hour late anyway. The weather is getting worse and worse. It is so cold and I am ready for bed!

8:30 pm. Finally back at my hotel. A drink with some friends and I am ready for a nice room-service in front of a French movie.
