Parisian Boutique Colette Is the Latest Victim of Hedi Slimane’s Wrath

Agreed. While I find all these shirts tacky this Aint Laurent one is the most clever of the bunch.

Regarding the whole brouhaha, Hedi seriously needs to take a chill pill. Such an egotistical twit.

Well, to be honest that "Ain't Laurent Without Yves" shirts are the definition of cringeworthy.

I don't really have an opinion on the tack level of the tees, but I bet Saint Laurent saw a big increase in sales in their entry level goods (cosmetics, costume jewels etc) when these tees were seen on every fashion blogger, wannabe fashion girl. It made girls who know nothing about fashion take note of Saint Laurent, not the brand who made the tees, and I know a lot of people who had no prior interest in the house went scouring online stores trying to buy as many of say, the arty oval rings, etc as they could in the last year.

 I can't tell if you're being facetious or you truly just don't see/understand the humor in the actual t-shirt. Ain't Laurent - it's a play on Saint Laurent. So your other analogies that you presented obviously don't work because it's not using the same punchline. But the Ain't Laurent one is clever, IMO.

Yes, I do understand punchline. I just find the whole concept of the thing stupid.

These "Ain't Laurent without Yves" t-shirts are better than anything Slimane's done for Yves Saint Laurent. I think he wants to count himself lucky that people haven't forgotten about his takeover, since it has been sooo tiresome.

This is getting ridiculous. Hedi Slimane is burning bridges fast! The only saving grace for Hedi is that his collections are reportedly to be selling extremely well.

I understand when a new designer comes to a historic house, interpretation of the house codes will be different i.e. Raf at Dior - may not be everyone's cup of tea but I personally feel he has designed some fantastic collections...all under the Dior aesthetic.

With what Hedi is designing now it would probably work if it was under his namesake label but for YSL...I don't think Kering chose the best designer for that role - they are too aesthetically far apart.

Reign in that ego or go home!

Heidi Slimane is the worst thing in the fashion at the moment.

I wouldn't mind his ego, if he is actually brilliant at YSL, but since he ruined and downgraded everything from the logo to the ad campaign to the collection, yes I would say 'aint Laurent without Yves (....Tom and Stefano)'
Really. It's like living in a fashion nightmare where your favourite label has turned into something you could find in the market and you dont even want in just two seasons time.

Good lord, he's such a d***head! He should focus on producing good work instead.

I don't see anything cringeworthy about it. In fact, I think it's quite clever. And true.

If you're looking for the definition of cringeworthy, Hedi's collection for the house would be a good place to start.

This. I thought the t-shirt was hilarious and far more creative than the others of its ilk. Probably even more creative than Slimane's Topshop/Zara-esque collections

In any case, it's something Colette would stock and is stocked other places so why he threw a hissy fit over that is beyond me.

  He needs to have several seats. Usually such an inflated ego is at least made tolerant by being able to back it up. The quality of Saint Laurent is such crap, sorry but it really Aint Laurent without Yves

The level of outrage over his petulance is similar to the petulance, itself. ;)

SLimane is doing a sensational job of staying in the headlines and creating controversy (and brand awareness). It's hard to tell how much of this is infantilism and how much is calculated to generate press, but he's fuming all the way to the bank, either way.

He's such a child. He's not even a "difficult genius" because there is literally nothing he has recently done that shows even a speck of talent, let alone genius.

He epitomizes the state of fashion - it's become this Alice in Wonderland world and everyone's the Queen of Hearts. You say one thing and it's off with your head.

Oh please. Everything he did so far is just making everyone questioning themselves "Why S.L.?" Cause it's Ain't Laurent Without Yves, indeed.

 He is absolutely ridiculous! The power he has even more so. He is the absolute worst.

Soon there will be no one but those who know how to kiss a** very well sitting at his shows. Lucky for him the industry is littered with them.

I am just wondering how Hedi sold this ego dramarama to the head bosses at Kering. clearly this is not about selling his creations, it's not about money at all; its about his bruised ego!
I mean c'mon this is a retailer (for years) willing to sell his garments that he's created and he severed that client just like that? for a message in a shirt that is not even malicious at all! Colette even tried to rectify the situation but Hedi's big ego will not have it!

what a tyrant.

Those shirts and similar are the tackiest thing ever.
Although i do think this is an overreaction from Hedi's part, Colette is massively overrated, no wonder he feels there is no great harm in dropping them.
